Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires is out today, June 23, for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, at least in North America. It's also when KOEI officially lifts that embargo on reviews.

So here's Neoseeker's take on the latest Dynasty Warriors title. Fans usually expect a little more from Empires, and there are some neat features to check out. If you're not crazy about KOEI games though, you might want to pass this one up.

More at the source...

Wow, here's a franchise that has withstood the test of time, spawning countless spin-offs within the series as well as numerous offshoots like Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi. Love it or hate it, who doesn't know Dynasty Warriors?

The series has always been dismissed by gamers as something only fanboys could love, yet Dynasty Warriors 6 alienated many long-time fans, who were less than pleased with the extreme character makeovers and gameplay changes.

Enter Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires, a DW title that borrows elements of RTS. Don't let that mislead you, because there's no way Empires can be considered a real-time strategy game. I like to think of it as expensive bonus content for Dynasty Warriors 6. The most notable differences are the game's Empire Mode and improved Edit Mode.

You bet your ass. Ma Chao ...

Ma Chao's signature spear is now a really big sword.
    I *bleep*ing called it.

It's good to know that we can buy our own horses now. I pissed me off that in SW6 you had to luck out on which harness you picked up and then had to train it to maximum strength.

Sun Ce still has Ma Chao's old moveset, far as I can tell. I really miss the old Ma Chao though...

Overall, the character creation was my favorite feature. I'm just a sucker for character editors, but the Edit Mode is also a way for you to choose your favorite combat style without having to use an existing character you might not give two shits about.

I've always loved Empires games, for various reasons. One of them being that DW4 Empires was the only one that gave you a Japanese voice option...this time around, it's being able to have some semblance of a story for every character, instead of restricting more than half the roster to Free and Challenge modes.
