Rest assured, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say that Batman: Arkham Asylum is unquestionably the best licensed game I've ever played. At the end of the day, however, that's a fairly low hurdle to clear -- it better reflects the game's quality to say it's one of the best stealth-action games ever made, and easily the best video game 2009 has had to offer thus far.

It's a wonderful experience, beginning to end, never taking the easy or familiar route, and infusing each shift of the story with original ideas that cut no corners. By the end, you know that Batman is badass because you'e felt it through every DualShock rumble. And if you're a true fan of the DC universe, you'll keep going back for more. 5/5

Batman: Arkham Asylum doesn't quite deliver on all of its big ideas, and thus dodges the highest of accolades, but its rousing peaks make its low points more than bearable. Its best moments of dazzling showmanship easily qualify as must-see entertainment, even if they're not sufficient to make the game as a whole a must-play. 4/5

Batman: Arkham Asylum is the greatest comic book videogame of all time. This is an adult Dark Knight story that is well-told, packs some truly fun gameplay elements, has topnotch voice talent, and feel like it's part of Batman cannon. If I have to nitpick, I wish the cutscenes looked better as they can distract from the tale and that the AI was a bit more responsive, but those are tiny flaws that shouldn't distract from the big picture.
Rocksteady nailed what Batman is supposed to feel like. Fans, rejoice. 9.3/10

I doubt it will be game of the plethora of big name games coming out, but a contender? Maybe...we will have to wait and see.

It won't be GotY. I will be up for it. But that prize belongs to MW2 and AC2 and possibly FM10.

You think Football Manager 2010 will be a contender for GOTY?

      HAH

Batman will be a HUGE contender for it, considering how many pre-orders it's got and how many people are actually fans of Batman i can see it selling way into the millions.

MW2 is just MW with updated graphics and a few things thrown in. This is a whole new and unique game, definitely the best super hero game ever and in my eyes, definite GOTY.

Who cares if MW2 is an updated MW1? The sole fact that it has a 2 next to it automatically places it a contender. This is how things goes, sequels always gets a better and easier shot at GOTY.

It has to topple MW2, Assasins Creed 2, L4D2, Splinter cell (it comes out this year right?) and Halo ODST.

Sorry man. I like FM, but there's no way it's even close to GOTY.

It's a race between this, Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 and Forza 3 to me.

But next years game of the year...God, that's going to be tough.

Yeah but how many people are going to buy MW2. GTAIV was just an upadted San Andreas with graphics, that got GotY.

You do realise it was Fallout 3 that got Game of the Year 2008 right?

Game of the Year these days is split into the individual genres regardless. It is essentially a way for those good enough to release a new version stating the fact.

GoTY? does it even mean anything anymore? Not to me it doesn't. Just tells the people who didn't want a game to go "Oh this game got GoTY! Then it must be good!"

    I doubt it.

Judging from the demo, I really don't see B:AA being the groundbreaking Batman game I expected.

I was a little sick the day I played it, so maybe that affected my judgment, but the controls seemed so weird/annoying. Like, I'd be hitting one guy, then, with out wanting to, I'd start hitting someone else. And when I actually tried to hit someone else, Batman would only focus on one guy. It's not like it made the game difficult, but I just expected to be very "in control" of Batman, and that seems to not be the case.

Even my older brother played the demo. He played for, literally, 2 minutes before he started feeling disappointed with it and stopped playing it.

I also thought that the only good voice-overs and lines came from Mark Hamill while everyone else's lines (yes, even the great Kevin Conroy) felt either a bit out of place, or at times, half-hearted.

Also, I want to point out the scene at the end of the demo where Batman walks into a room, finds The Joker in there, throws a batarang at him and says, "I'LL FIND YOU JOKER!!," all while The Joker is right in front of him...

I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for saying all this, since there seem to be a lot of die-hard Batman fans, but that's fine. Everyone can have an opinion.

No, I'm not going to flame you. I see where you're coming from but I disagree. I think the free flow combat is great, it allows easy, yet complex moves to be done in an instant. It is a fun yet very deep, combat system, which I believe makes it a great feature in the game.
