Game Podunk's Whiskey brings you a review of Zipper Interactive's MAG in BETA, covering the graphics, controls, replay value, and various game modes of MAG.

Graphics and sound aside, MAG is shaping up beautifully. Playing through many of the Domination games and (even more) Acquisition rounds, I have yet to see any lags or server problems. I understand, however, that the BETA only has around 9,000 people (or more) playing at once. Still, to have a room with 256 people in it and have no lags is seriously impressive to me.

...

The command structure is amazing and executed near-perfectly, but your experience with it will depend on the squad you're with. And therein lies the most serious problem that could befall MAG. If you have nothing but people without mics on your team, you'll almost surely lose. Likewise, if all you have on your side are people that refuse to play "for the team," your defeat is almost certain.

This game is looking really good even if I'm not a big online person, it's coming out to be amazing.

So its all down to the players now, which as they said will be the biggest test for the game.

They need some way of enforcing team work as right now despite spawning at the same point no one works as a squad, makes it worse when you capture a new site and can spawn from there really splits the squad up if some don't get the memo and don't change spawn sites... Right now it is just one big free for all and that is what lets it down.

Thats not not good if your a noob and most of us will be newbies as well. Its easy enough in Killzone 2 to go solo but with the extra numbers MAG needs a solution to teamworking. Something like only respawn on your leader would be obvious.
