Borderlands, the upcoming aptly named "Role Playing Shooter", by Gearbox gets one of its first reviews. Praising its co-op, weapon variation and art style, the reviewer warns that the game is geared more towards hardcore players, but is one everyone should try.

Borderlands only true downfall has to be the fact that it’s stuck releasing between Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. If this was releasing in an off-month like June or July, it would receive praise and Game of the Year notions in terms of quality of play; however, due to its release schedule, it may get mixed in the gray of other GOTY-worthy candidates. It also doesn’t help that Borderlands is geared more towards the hardcore gamer opposed to the casual player. Those enjoying the aspects of grindings those levels out in co-op or solo mode will enjoy Borderlands for everything it is…those who don’t, should probably rent it first. As for me, I’m a hardcore gamer and feel Borderlands is worth every penny and then some – especially once Zombie Island is released. Bring on the pain!

I have a feeling that this game is really going to suck me in. I absolutely love the merging of genres, especially when one is "RPG".

I'm loving it - if you are lucky enough to get on the friends list on Live (Daigoji Gai) or PSN (daigoji_gai) I have some exotic loot drops for new arrivals in Pandora that will help with the first few missions... been playing with the guys from MTV's Multiplayer, the gang here at UGO, and some of the 1UP folk for the last couple of days, and gotta say - I am a convert.

Wanted nothing to do with RPG-lite, but after literally 4 mins in (including the opening credit sequence) I fell in love. A few 'sub-mission' breaking glitches here and there, but a quick reload resolves some of them.

This game has no damn right to be so damn good!

Is it as addicting as oblivion? I haven't played a good RPG style game in a LONG time.
