Gamersyde is one of the first English sites to review Bayonetta and they were impressed, calling it "new reigning king of modern Beat 'Em All".

Despite some weaker parts and a technical side not always at the top, Bayonetta easily becomes the new reigning king of the modern Beat'Em All genre. With a gameplay as deep as it is easy to understand, an incredibly varied arsenal and numerous enemies and bosses, Platinum released here nothing less than THE new reference. A game that no player that considers himself a gamer should miss.

      Maybe you should play the game before passing judgement.

        I've played the demo (which has been out on the Japanese PSN for over a month now) and am not all that impressed. Kinda fun, kinda cloned DMC (even effect timing), yet Clover ain't a bunch of idiots.

        Then again the DMC team will have that effect (nyuk nyuk). Passable, but i'm ranking 7/10. I'll probably buy it at 30$ USD, but certainly won't camp for it on release day. Thankfully the genre doesn't get too many actual contenders too often, so I figure a rental is at least in order either way.

    I watched the first cutscene on YouTube and I was incredibly entertained.

    The moment I have the money and know which "selected retailers" give the gun replica as a pre-order bonus, I'm getting that special edition. ;;

    This would be far from the first time reviewers have glowed over a new game, yet whenI eventually play it, it ends up being average. MW2 is getting praise all over, and I played it. Wasn't all that amused.

    Critics are too easily pleased nowadays. Everything that releases gets wide appraisal lately, whether it's deservant or not.

      I feel the same. What with the story of Ubisoft trying to bribe that German review site for an early 'glowing' review of Assassin's Creed 2 (true or not), think it's safe to say that the industry players have figured out how to work over the system. See, when you see assholes like Bobby Kotick suddenly making statements as if they knew shit, then it's safe to say the media's playing to the smell of greenbacks. When it comes down to it, you're going to have to play it yourself, or chose not to bother with it.

      Bayonetta's demo was definitely missing scripting/cutscenes (there's visual queues for it, but scenes jump). I don't think the civilians are supposed to be grayed out shadows either, especially since at times, they seem to react to the potential acts of player insanity.

      (AC2 is pretty frickin' good though)

        Except that I haven't been hearing about AC2 like it's the second coming of Jesus, unlike other games like this and MW2.
