Edge magazine are usually quite nitpicky with their reviews, so it may come as a surprise that they awarded Bayonetta a perfect 10/10 review, claiming that she "slaps Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board."

[Discuss in the Bayonetta forum]

A beautiful and graceful fighting game that lets imagination loose, and winks before slapping Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board. [Christmas 2009, p.90]

I honestly only found the game (well demo) ok.I can see the appeal of the game it just doesn't appeal to me.I'll stick to God of War thankyou.

That said I would MAYBE buy it for dirt cheap.

Dante? Seriously? Either Edge Mag hates Dante, or they just haven't thoroughly played through the DMC games.

Actually, Dante is slowly slipping into oblivion. His last appearence was lackluster, and there hasn't been word of a new game yet.

But there's no denying this - he was *bleep*ing insane when he first came out.

Huh, his DMC3 game was off the chain. Maybe he got side-tracked for DMC4, but it seems to be a high/low bit for the DMC franchise: DMC1: Awesome, DMC: Not, DMC3: Spectacular, DMC4: Average. Least that's the way I see it. Even though DMC4 gave Dante a slight boot, I still enjoyed the heck out of that game.

Someone who works with EDGE magazine has a vendetta against me. Either that or they're just retards who are yet to learn that the internet has a lot more, and free, masturbation material. Probably both.

Know what? After playing the demo I'd agree with them. Bayonetta is much better than Devil May Cry + God of War IMO. It'll be the best game of it's genre in 2010.

Certainly was fun. The creatures were awesome, scenery was great and the combat is intense.

Dante and Kratos are too manly that no other man could beat them -- but a woman can!

10 points if you catch my reference.

Meanwhile the God of War series has more than a dozen awards and near unanimous general positive reviews with each game (that would be 9-10/10, 3 times in a row). When Bayonetta reaches that standard, then we can talk.

Because people can't be excited for a new IP and as such it can't possibly be high quality...

Lol, yeah no that was totally what I was saying. I got an announcement, Braid beats the shit out of Mario, like hands down. Anything to say to that?

It's people like you that ruin new IPs. Just because Bayonetta is a new game and a whole new concept, doesn't mean it won't be alot better than God of War tbh the God of War games all play the exact same which bores the crap outta me, this is why I am looking forward to Bayonetta and a whole new take on the genre.

You're right, all the GoW games do play relatively the same, but guess what Bayonetta plays exactly like Devil May Cry and don't even try to deny it. I downloaded the Japanese demo months ago. It's a fun game for sure, but you run around with your stupid sensationalism all over the internet and it's sad to see others buy into it. So be careful not to make yourself look like a fool next time.

Bayonetta is hardly a new take on the genre. Stop touting stuff that isn't even remotely true just to get peoples attention.

I'm not here to defend God of War, Devil May Cry, SeekerX or anything. I'm just here to defend logic.
Tone it down a notch. You've only played 10 minutes of the game and it's already better than Devil May Cry and God of War? Yet you call out GoW for all the games playing the same and that's boring to you. What if Bayonetta is so absolutely boring by the time you're done with it?

Also, the nature of the genre is inherently repetitive.

God of War having such high reviews isn't really a reason to talk down to this game. Sure God of War is fantastic, and always will be, but a little diversity/change can't hurt in the least. But I understand what you're getting at, unlike everyone else around here. I'm gonna wait for reviews myself on this one, just because I don't want to spend my money needlessly.

I was a bit disappointed in the demo, to be honest. The fighting mechanics are pretty good, but again, no game has matched God Of War for fluidity. It still feels too stiff, too on-the-rails - like if you mistime a combo by a split-second that combo doesn't finish. There's no freedom in that.

Having said that, some of the attacks are awesome, and I love the combination of gun and normal attacks.

But what's my main gripe? It makes no *bleep*ing sense.

And yet. . . . I've still absolutely no interest in this game, and I stick to my guns that Sonic the Hedgehog slaps Bayonetta off the hero lineup. Sonic is a Bayonetta killer

I think defeating Mundus (one of the strongest demon emperors, if not the strongest?), that giant 'thing' in DMC4 and fighting through hell itself keeps Dante in the running, yeah.

Dante + Devil Trigger > Kratos.

The only question is whether he can finish off the Greek before his devil meter runs out, 'cause if he can't he's *bleep*ed XD

Annnnd there it goes over your head. I'm wondering, since I seem to be hating on the game so much by calling it a horrible piece of crap and not that I just compared it to God of War's HUGE success or anything...just how successful is Bayonetta compared to GoW again? Like in order to claim that it obviously kicks its ass?

Like my Braid comment, people would hang me, telling me how much history and success the Mario franchise has while Braid was a one hit wonder. Doesn't make it a bad game, just makes it a stupid *bleep*ing idea to say it anyways. Which btw, why is it ok to glorify this game WHILE talking down the other franchises? Double standards much?

"Franchise 1 kicks franchise 2's ass!"
"But franchise 1 hasn't reached franchise 2's success...?"
"Oh you're SUCH A DICK! TAKING DOWN NEW IP'S, HUH?!"

    ???

But what about when God of War first came out? There was no success history behind it, yet it went on to become what it is today. You can't bring in the success story when you're talking about new IPs.

I think the point is, maybe Bayonetta will BECOME good enough and may RISE to the position to defeat the above, but right now it does not. It's not to say that it will never do it, but right now, saying a baby is stronger than a 25 year old body-builder is a bit foolish.
