Bryan Fleck of Resume Play reviews Darksiders, Vigil Games' newest action adventure title. Bryan comments on the story, visuals, sound and gameplay, which all amount to a game to rival current kings of the genre.

Darksiders is like a amalgamation of several classic games. It takes freely from such titles as Devil May Cry, God of War, and the entire Zelda Series. Now, many games try to do this, and fail. Darksiders, however, succeeds enough to not only be mentioned, but enough to be entered into the pantheon of great action/puzzle/platformers.

The Action in Darksiders is tangible. The game has tons of visceral kills, and it even keeps track of how much demon blood you’ve spilled. Every different type of enemy has their own special finishing move, and they are all pretty brutal. There is blood flying everywhere, but not enough to block your vision or distract you.

I've been looking at getting this game. Looks promising, not sure whether its a buy or a rent though.

If you truly explore and take your time this game is an easy 20 hours. I mean I have died a few times, but even now I am 11 hours into the story and I still think they have atleast another 8 hours to give me, depending on how easy those final hours are. Though I think much of the speed will come down to how good you are at puzzles, this game throws plenty of puzzles at you, so if you are good at puzzles that could considerably shorten the game I suppose. I still think a first playthrough is looking at 16-20 hours minimum.

Twenty hours is pretty good for a hack and slasher, I'll pick it up when I run out of new games to play and I can find a used copy. Is there much replay value?

You can go around and find everything there are artifacts and armor shards for those that want to be a badass. As far as I am aware once you have completed it the world is left open for you to do this and there is always playing again on harder difficulties. There is a bit of replayability, not as much as other games but this game is longer than most of it's rivals so perhaps it doesn't need it as much. It's a nice little hack n' slash game though worth a rent atleast if you don't fancy the wait for a nice price.

I haven't played the game myself, but I would guess not, aside from upgrading abilities or finding collectibles (if there are any.)
