Our review of EA Montreal's Army of Two: the 40th Day. A step backwards for the series, which is a real disappointment. While many minor improvements have been to the gameplay made, the plot is severely lacking and much of the humour and charm has gone.

The majority of the game follows Salem and Rios’ attempt to escape the city. While I can appreciate what the developers have attempted here, to recreate a somewhat realistic military situation based on lack of information and rapidly changing situation, the result is less than impressive. The open nature of the plot strips most of the purpose out of the combat, which means the combat feels somewhat dull.

After playing the demo, I'd have to say that I had this same feeling as well. The game just seems too serious and such as compared to the first Army of Two. Me and my bro were disappointed with the demo for various reasons such as the character voices changed, the morales being rather drastic at times, etc..

I'd agree with the atmosphere, the up close and personal bit for this war in Shanghai is pretty damn good, the customization is quite detailed and actually makes a difference, and the co-op features are always kick-ass. I will be getting this game soon, but basically for the co-op, MP games are big in my house. Definitely miss the humour and such that made the first game great, though.
