In only the second time in its long running history, Sega Nerds has awarded a Sega game a perfect 5 out of 5 rings. The duel reviews state that the battle system is the best so far this generation, as well praising the addictive ranking system, character models and high level of replayability.

Character models? Really? And best battle system? These things I doubt.

    Have you played the game?

The combat is really fun and there is so much you can do. I have really been enjoying Bayonetta.

Well it figures that the Sega Nerds would give a perfect score to a game published by Sega

It figures that you didn't read the review. This is only the second time they ever gave a game a perfect score. Not to mention, if you know anything about Sega fans, they seem more harsh on Sega than anyone else!

Yes, even if the plot and dialogue would shame a seventies porn film they're so bad.

I cannot believe that even with a terrible plot the game gets a perfect score. We are part of a gaming industry trying to grow up, yes gameplay and visuals are important but the story these days is what keeps me playing.

There hasn't been a single game released in the last 10 years that has offered something unique gameplay wise, actually I lie there Portal and Half-Life 2 offered unique gameplay, though the rest is doing nothing new so I need a good story to make me play through the often short and labourious video games we have today.

I don't buy the excuse that video games aren't books argument for lack of story in video games, if games didn't need story why did we lynch the FPS genre for bastardising storytelling..

Maybe I am unique but I like a good story in a game, something that will make me think, provoke emotions... Bayonetta is not this and thus I will give it 7/10 at best as it is well polished, but it does nothing new.

While I won't disagree that I played some games for story like most rpgs, but I don't think its right to expect all games to have a great plot. Bayonetta is an action like Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry, the genre generally doesn't focus much on plot development and there's nothing wrong with that.

Not everyone wants to play a game with a great story, some people just plain don't care and want to beat shit up. I like games with story, but as long as the gameplay is good, I can look past a shitty plot.

I agree. This action genre isn't usually big on story, it's about the gameplay. Some developers spend more time on piece of the game rather than the whole package, something to help it stand out. Say for instance, Bayonetta. It's graphics are alright, sound is a love/hate, characters aren't easily connected to yet fun, plot isn't big but yet, it's gameplay is so diverse and fun.

A lot of people are put off by the character attitude and such, but we have to realize that Bayonetta was carefree until a certain point, she had no memory of her past. I wouldn't give it a perfect score, somewhere like an 8.5 would be decent, had a lot of fun with the game with only a few gripes, such as the character models (some look pretty weird xD).

Though a good story never hurt anyone. I don't see why a developer wouldn't try and do something with the story. I mean just because the genre doesn't expect a good story, doesn't mean they can't try. I mean I mentioned FPS games earlier and in comparison modern FPS games have incredibly deep stories, perhaps nothing like an RPG or a Third Person Action Adventure game but they do try.

I just think that these days in such a maturing medium it is a mistake to miss on the story. As long as the developer leaves a button on the controller to skip the cut scenes for those that really don't care then everyone is happy. Bayonetta is a very good game I agree with the rest of the review I just can't agree with a game getting a perfect score without checking the good story box.

The story isn't too bad, I understood the story quite well, but plotholes commenced much like with the DMC series. In any case, we knew the main villain's goal, Bayonetta's original and later role, Luka's position, etc.. But yeah, I'm sure it could have been better, but I'd rather for this game it doesn't get too deep. It just doesn't seem like it'll keep up with the fast-paced action.

I hate Tetris because the story sucked. Gameplay is overrated.

This game has the best fighting system out of all the games of it's genre so far, the most fun and insane fighting system yet.

People who are whining about the story need to realise that games of it's genre hardly ever have a great story and hell, the story wasn't even that bad.

I'd give it a 9/10 myself. Taking away 1 point for the story the rest of the game is great. Whilst it's not going to be winning any game of the year award, it should certainly be winning 2010 game of it's genre award.

God of War has a solid story, and has lashings of violent action. That's why it will be remembered, while Bayonetta is a novelty product. And yes the story was that bad.

I think the only reason these guys love the combat system is because they get to see Bayonetta get naked before every big combo
