Electronic Theatre delivers an in-depth review of Tecmo Koei Europe's recently released Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce, now available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
As would be expected, the combat in Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce follows the traditional set-up – Square for normal attacks, Triangle for heavy attacks and Circle for Musou techniques, once the appropriate bar has been filled – and the enemy artificial intelligence (AI) has only received minor refinement. What has changed, however, is the degree of which Dynasty Warriors has begun to plumb the depths of fantasy. The characters have always been larger-than-life in many ways, and the advent of the Warriors Orochi series saw Tecmo Koei’s Hack-N’-Slash series cross over from heightened to true fantasy. Now, characters have the power of Fury; transforming into huge electric warriors and leaping huge distances, fighting giant glowing enemies. Though it may still claim to be a fictional interpretation of the clan wars of ancient China, Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce bears more resemblance to the magical world of Kameo: Elements of Power.
