The ninth round of Articles of Excellence comes to a close and Dark Moor snaps up the win again, a two-in-a-row victory thanks to their Final Fantasy XIII review. Giving it a mere 1.5/5 and describing it as a bad game overall, Dark Moor lays out the reasons why a game in such a popular series falls well short of the mark.

Final Fantasy is a series that started off as Square's original swansong, into an innovator in the RPG genre, and now into Square's cash cow with at least twenty two million spin off games for the DS, PSP and Wii. Of course, nothing in the series has managed to top the success of Final Fantasy VII, nor have any been as good as Final Fantasy VI (in my opinion, at least). It's quite unfortunate that Final Fantasy XIII doesn't do the series justice, either. In fact, it was pretty weak. It wasn't interesting, nor is it even that good.

Uh-oh, don't let ShadowGuard see this.

I liked the battle system, but agree on all other counts- I only played about 10 hrs of it, though.

Western RPGs have corrupted new RPG fans... . Plenty wrong with the game, but a 1.5/5 rating is bogus and even laughable. I like how every review for this game starts out "Final Fantasy is Square Enix's bread and butter..." Which means the reviewer put an unrealistic expectation for the game...

Probably a bit harsher than deserved, and I don't really get why you would want to repackage VII/FFX (Great games, but doing something like that all over again?) but its an okay review.
