IGN Review: Mario Strikers Charged

Mario Strikers Charged, the much anticipated sequel to the Gamecube hit Super Mario Strikers, was reviewed today by IGN. The review was mostly positive, with IGN praising the game's graphics, controls, online-play, and extra content.

The game will release on July 30th in North America.

Mario Strikers Charged is exactly the kind of sequel I was hoping for. It plays similarly to its predecessor, which means that it's got tight control and it moves at a quick, arcade-style pace. But it's also got a lot of mechanical and aesthetic enhancements, from new Wii gesture controls that feel great to truly polished graphics. There's added content. More characters to choose from than ever before. You can select sidekicks, who now come with special moves of their own. There are wealth of new interactive stages. And there are even some supplemental single-player modes. When you're done with Road to the Striker Cup, you can try out the Striker Challenges, which throw you into situations and test you to come out the victor; as you win, you'll unlock cheats that can be used in the offline multiplayer mode.

    The issue with Mario Strikers Charged is that it is very much a local multiplayer game. The single player aspect is too repetitive to stand on its own and the online functionality is only a marginal improvement upon it. Either way it certainly is a unique game that will provide a lot of fun while it lasts.

    I've seen many previews on it and I can't wait to buy it. I've seen many vids, so I hope to pick it up sometime in the fall when I get a Wii of my own.

    I'm usually not a fan of sports games, especially soccer games, but this one seems diverting enough to be fun. I have been looking for a good multiplayer experience on Wii, and think I will pick this game up. I'm also interested in trying out the Nintendo Wifi connection myself, and just see how good/bad it will be.

    Graphics look pretty darn good. Like a few sports games wrapped into one, eh? Multiplayer is definately why I'll be getting this game.

    I played the first Mario Strikers game, it was pretty good...has your usual Mario Party game kind of choices like the Tournaments or side games. It played pretty damn good when playing against someone else...even better when more joined up...but unfortunately it's hard to stay on the game for more than an hour as it gets old easily.

    A good idea for online replayability would've been like your own Statistics, leaderboards, the basics of online playing to keep you coming back for more.
