It’s a sad but true fact about modern videogames: the first person shooter market is ridiculously overcrowded. Dozens of shooters are released every year nowadays, not all of them good, and even the more standout games often fail to innovate, sticking instead to the tried and true tropes of the genre. Electronic Arts has more or less declared their intention to retake the shooter market from the claws of Activision, a feat they have yet to accomplish with their Battlefield and Medal of Honor series. They face stiff competition: the billion-dollar pop culture juggernaut Call of Duty, which despite receiving CEO Bobby Kotick’s patented Guitar Hero one-a-year formula, has no signs of stopping its total videogame domination.
