It's finally here. The 3DS is Nintendo's newest tool of handheld gaming domination. After spending several hours over several evenings with the device, it's now time to review the first impressions of the portable console.

Any DS aficionados will feel right at home with the control layout: a directional pad on the left, the familiar ABXY face buttons on the right, and L and R shoulder buttons behind the screen.

I bought it a few days after release and I don't regret it at all.

This is the first nintendo handheld I have ever bought within days of being launched.I didn't get a GBA or a DS till years after release.

In the same exact boat. Enjoying it very much, but desperate for some of those titles that are still months away from release.

may i ask why? what makes the 3D aspect of it worth the price? or are there other features that make it worthwhile? i have a hard time believing its worth $250.

Well I love augmented reality. The thing with the cards and bringing the characters out as little figures which you can pose, add together and take photo's is awesome.

Putting people's faces in Face Raiders and shooting them is awesome.

While the 3D camera quality is rather shit, I still really enjoy taking photo's with it.

I also ejoy the pedomoeter that counts your steps when you take your 3DS with you and put it on sleep mode.It also gives you coins for every 100 steps then you use those coins to play the built in RPG game that's part of the street pass thing. You can also buy puzzle parts with those coins to make up 3D pictures of various game stuff like Pikmin and Mario.

You can also unlock hats for your Mii's through the RPG game.

I spend more time playing around with the built in stuff than I do the game I bought with the 3DS.

To be fair, although it's a welcome addition and generally filled with cool shit, I don't care too much for the built-in stuff. Mainly got the 3DS for its future line-up of games and the 3D effect which not only looks great but will be beneficial in a few titles.

Enjoying mine so far, the 3D itself is class and will certainly make some games better, especially platformers with the added depth. Going to be a quality summer for games.
