IGN UK gives Heavenly Sword a 7/10

MrSponget | August 23, 2007 | Reviews | Playstation 3
Another big name PS3 game "Heavenly Sword" has received a "good-but-not-great" score from a major reviewer. This time IGN UK gives Heavenly Sword a 7/10. The reviewers seemed to be very happy with the graphics, sound, voice acting, presentation etc. but they found the gameplay too repetitive along with a few other problems.
When you think of Heavenly Sword, you probably think of beauty. From the outset Sony has ridden a tidal wave of goggle-eyed awe every time it's wheeled out its third-person action adventure to the gaping masses. For a long, long time, Heavenly Sword's been a poster child for the next generation of PlayStation gaming, with a virtually unparalleled aesthetic and attention to detail. It's only recently we've had chance to dig below that surface though and witness the game beneath that high-gloss, mo-capped exterior.

Thing is though they completed the whole game, seriously i wouldget bored of a game if i was forced to play it all in a day... Personally think their review was unjustified, other reviewers have loved the game.

Exactly thats why it sucks. People who buy these games want to press the sqaure button like 1000 times in 2 minutes. Fanboys make the industry suck and rock because average games get sequels. I'm not saying heavenly sword is that repetitive but you get my point.
Also how do you know they played it all in one day?

I never said it was a button masher. I just took off of their review that it was repetitive. It's definitely not just a button masher. Shit, I have fun just going through the demo with nothing but counter attacks and superstyles. I just meant that not everybody minds doing remotely the same thing a couple times during a game.

The problem is not repetitive play, genius the problem mostly lies on the lack of epic combat (like taking away the swordplay...apparently I was right, this is more of a movie than a game.

What part of 'Action' in the genre didn't these guys understand? It's like God of War, Dynasty Warriors, Devil May Cry, or any of those other hack n' slash style games.

I agree with dmf dynasty here. The game has different styles and mixups to use to seperate it from the rest of the crowd.

Also, its not as though 7/10 is a bad score ... Sure its not as good as some other games but its still quite high !
I'm still going to get it anyways ^^

I won't say I'm surprised by the presence of repetive gameplay... The demo essentially involved tapping two buttons in different orders, then seeing amazing combos appear on screen. That's what I loved about it.

Please just cause one place rates it 7/10 doesn't mean it is. Some other place could rate this 9/10.

How come a score like a 7 or below for one of the big name PS3 games is automatically a load of bullcrap? I've noticed that people (not really here but on other gaming sites) seem to think the reviewers *bleep*ed up somehow, there's some kind of bias, IGN got sick of playing straight through it, or IGN is a washed up site. (all because of one review) Maybe the game just wasn't as good? The best we played out of it wasn't much and not much to judge from.

Well this is IGN Uk. They usually give lower scores then IGN NA. IGN NA will probably give it a higher score.

MrSpongeT9-I think a lot of the time, people disagree with them afte playing the demo. A lot of people played it and loved and they disagree with this review. Its like warhawk. Almost all beta testers loved that game and PSM gave it a 6/10. That reviewer was messed up.

Why was it messed up? Because fanboys say it is? Beta teesters don't play the whole game doing basicaly only one thing gets repetitive.
