GamePodunk editor MarcusEstrada takes in a different perspective of Smartphone and Handheld along with giving examples of why some arguments between analysts do not work for the Smartphone gaming market. Read on for more details.

As of late, everyone has been dog-piling onto Nintendo about why they should dive into the smartphone gaming market. At the same time, people criticize both Sony and Nintendo for releasing handhelds at all when they are to have their games cost $40+ dollars. Analysts left and right are quoted discussing the fact that smartphones completely destroy the purpose of portable consoles. To me, it all seems like a big joke.

I like the notion that there really isn't much of a war going on. It's not as stark of a contrast between consoles vs. handhelds, but it is still a completely different environment when you look at smartphone games and handheld ones.

the only intersection i see are the flash style games on both.

the consoles/handhelds with their respective sevices do have the flash like games infact a few of the games on the markets were flash games that the flash developers decided to flesh out and make full-fledged market games, like n+, fancy pants adventure, There's no time to explain, etc...

And really those flash games actually appealed to gamers enough to even make the transition.

Heres the thing the phone games are all things that can be played for free on actual flash sites so they arent even worth the $1 since several clones can be played for free.
