Official Ninty Magazine Awards Super Mario Galaxy 97%!

ITANI | October 25, 2007 | Reviews | Wii
The UK Official Nintendo magazine has awarded Super Mario Galaxy a whooping 97%. Adding in the comments "Super Mario Galaxy is one of the finest games we've ever played". Great reviews about this game keep coming in and makes people think Nintendo fail to dissappoint yet again, which is evidently a plus.
Throughout the whole game the graphics constantly amaze, with stunning visual effects, some remarkably huge playing areas, and characters that are positively filled to the brim with personality

97%... wow. Only other game to get that was Twilight Princess.

Thank God it's on my Christmas list, if it's that good.

That's not at all an accurate measure of how good the game is. That's like Bungie giving Halo 3 a 97%.

I doubt that it was worth that high.

Deathwind, Prayzor's right, they basically rated their own game, it's not that accurate.

UK Official Nintendo Magazine aren't part of Nintendo themselves. Bad analogy on the "Bungie-Halo 3" thing.

Hell, there are a fair few third party games that have gotten better scores than first party games in that magazine.

Erm.....I...don't know...MAYBE for Japan, but Mario will have a hard time competing against BioShock in the U.S. as it is...maybe even MGS4.

I wouldn't say that. Everyone critic who has played it has been gushing over how amazing the game is. Bioshock is a superb game, I absolutely love it, but I think Galaxy could definitely give it a run for it's money. I can't say which is better, since I haven't played Galaxy, but if there is any game to compete with Bioshock for 2007 Game of the Year, it looks like it is this.

By the way, to a few posters above, Offical Nintendo Magazine isn't written or published by Nintendo. It's completely owned by Future Publishing.

I still wouldn't count Galaxy to pull it off. Quite honestly, BioShock being probably the only game I've seen with a perfect score from so many reviewers...in fact, MANY reviewers are already giving it GOTY props.

Wow.. that's pretty amazing. I never thought it'd get such a high rating. Now, this game has definetely shot up on my to buy list.

This is the kind of logic I don't understand. Would you then ignore a game that got a low rating from a magazine, let alone its first publicized review? Why should someone else's opinion, someone whom you don't even know, make a difference how high the game is on your to buy list? Why are these 'professional reviewers' any different than anyone else?

I'm sure that this ONE review didn't make him want to all of a sudden buy the game. After seeing that Galaxy is getting praised so much, I don't see why people wouldn't want to buy it more than they did before.

how much do you wanna bet it's just another average mario game?
of course people will like it. there's tons of idiots that love playing the same game with the same characters, simple platform mechanics, and landscapes over and over and over and over and over again.

    and the graphics 'constantly amaze'?
i lol'ed hard at that. these guys must not own a PS3.

Do you know anything about the game, firstly it is far from the same thing, your in space jumping between planets, gravity is mixed up to suit the game and the Wii-mote pointer is used as well to add even more.

Also that clearly meant for a Wii game.

I'm guessing you have barely seen the game, right, Bandito? It's not the same game. Other than a few familiar characters, there are many new characters. The platforming mechanics aren't simple, they are very diverse and very original. The landscapes are nothing like we have seen in any other game. And I don't mean not any other Mario game, I mean not like any other game at all. Just find one game that looks and plays like just Galaxy. I don't mean having plumber running and jumping, there is much more to the game than that.

And yes, I think it does look amazing. Hell, Okami was on the PS2 and it constantly amazes me. Hardware isn't everything when it comes to visuals. Unless all can see is the polygon count, a game can look very nice without extremely powerful hardware. Powerful hardware just makes it easier.

Yeah dude, you're so right. I mean, every single Mario game ever released has solely focused on gravity and physics. Pshh ... gravity, physics, aerodynamics, they're all such simple concepts!

Same landscapes you say? Yeah, we all know that every Mario game is set in space.

Man, Galaxy sure is the same as every other Mario game. [/sarcasm]

And you've probably never seen this game in motion. I mean, I'm a PSWii60 owner, and this game still amazes me.

Fanboys...chill, just stating what I think with reasons to back it up apparently angers them, as shown by the thumbs down. What I really wouldn't mind them doing is altering the storyline JUST A BIT like they did with Luigi's Mansion...that's probably the only Mario game on the modern generations to ever impress me because not only did it use a new gameplay but it also radically changed the entire story to focus on Luigi...Mario's poor underrated brother...which apparently is still underrated because Luigi's Mansion wasn't exactly hailed that much.

Its funny how even his Mansion's underrated, funny, but sad, but funny!
