UK based magazine OXM UK has already had a chance to play through the single player campaign. On Normal difficulty settings the staff at OXM were able to complete the game in roughly 5 to 6 hours. As disappointing as that sounds from what I played of the demo there is a decent to good amount of replay value. There will always be multiplayer playability as well once you're done with the campaign.

OXM listed off for the game:

The Good:
+ Slick split story is gripping
+ Tremendous battle scale
+ Brilliantly judged pace changes
+ Helicopter bonanza!

The Bad:
- Dense but very short

    Wow another overhyped game.

Yeah, I played the SP demo and really thought it was pretty lackluster. Not nearly as good as the other CODs, particularly 2.

Well, this isn't anything new for CoD games. I finished Big Red One in 5 hours, CoD 3 in 6 hours... Call of Duty games aren't known for their length.

Those are both games that weren't made by Infinity Ward, aka the fathers of Call of Duty.

Infinity Ward has made CoD1,2,and 4. Any of the other ones are not nearly as good as these three, not necessarily bad, but not nearly as good for sure and CoD1 and 2 take a pretty good length of time to complete.

Well, that's disappointing. The CoD 3 campaign was pretty short and I hoped that this would change with CoD 4. Obviously not.

Still, this is a must on my Christmas list this year.

It is a bit disappointing, but that's what the higher difficulties are for, at least on the bright side. If Veteran is anything like previous games, it should definitely increase that time.

'Slick split story' - What does that mean? Is there a co-op mode?

But it's not that bad that it's short, don't most people play COD for the online?

I think "split story" refers to how you are playing as two different characters: one in the USMC and another in the British SAS.

If you want COD 4 to last longer, play it on Veteran. That should take you a while.

    Looks good to me.

CoD is a great game to play in multi-player and online, who cares about the replay value if you've got that. Most of the people who like CoD won't mind going back in the campaign and filling in everything.

Meh, who cares. It depends how good the player is and how much time they really spend on it, seriously.

*bleep* this game then. I'm not paying 60 bucks for something I can beat in an afternoon.

In the modern gaming world there's a thing called 'multiplayer', ever heard of it?

Actually i don't think its going to be a few hours to beat for everyone. I mean take God of War for instance it says 9 hours to beat but everyone plays it differently, i played way over 15 hours on mine.

But i think this game should be rented first.

That's probably due to the fact that you were wearing a helmet during your gaming sessions.

I can't wait for COD4, who gives a *bleep* how long the campaign is? I'll play through it twice. I'll play through it twice more on co-op. If the campaign sucks, it's still going to be a great game, because multiplayer is where the game shines. Just like Gears of War, which I enjoyed the campaign thoroughly in, as short as it was.

They were also playing on Normal. You have to factor in Veteran. Veteran will definitely increase the playtime.

Also the Multiplayer, but that's another thing entirely.

I don't really care how long the game is. Short or not, I'm still looking forward to COD4.
