Ever since Hironobu Sakaguchi left the helm of Squaresoft, there has been a big hole missing from the Final Fantasy series. The games were never quite the same after their creator had left, and unfortunately for Sakaguchi, his new gaming company "Mistwalker" didn't start off as successfully as he had hoped either.
But all that is about to change with the recent American/European release of Lost Odyssey - a 360 game that is being touted as the "new Final Fantasy", with it's deep storyline, detailed graphics, exciting Final Fantasy-styled battle system, and impressive audio/music score.
And with Final Fantasy fans being split down the middle with their opinions on recent FF games, perhaps Sakaguchi has created a new game series that will please "old fashioned" FF fans while expanding into something bigger than FF itself? Who knows, he's done it once already.
Even the hard-rating Famitsu magazine was impressed with Lost Odyssey, giving the game a very positive score of 36/40.
Final Fantasy fans - and there are millions of them - rejoice!
The game's grand-daddy, Hironobu Sakaguchi from Square-Enix, has created a new Japanese RPG which owes a lot to the magic of the hugely-popular Final Fantasy series.
An Xbox 360 exclusive out on Thursday, Lost Odyssey, is deep, complex, and touching with some jaw-dropping visuals.
It's the smoothest running game I have seen on the 360 and has absorbing twists in the plot that continue for what's said to be a total of around 50 hours gameplay.
This is a compelling and rewarding fantasy epic, a next-gen RPG that is hard to fault in any way.

But since Lost Odyssey is (apparently) vastly better and getting high praise everywhere, I wouldn't be surprised if it overtook Blue Dragon in sales one day. It's already halfway there.
