That VideoGame Blog reviews the online multiplayer mode of Super Smash Bros. Brawl on the day of its release in the United States, covering connection issues and possible reasons behind them.

At the initial menu’s you have the choice to play a match with registered friends or anyone from god knows where. This is where Ninty’s online implementation takes a nose dive. Now I’m not sure if the servers were flooded because EVERYONE was trying to get their online Brawl on, but initially I gave up trying to connect a random match because for the first half hour I attempted, it would leave me stuck on the screen before the stage started and then say that the connection was dropped.

I suspect these issues will subside later in the week, once Nintendo get their act together with their online servers.

Bah. It's the day after release. What do you expect? The test that Nintendo performed between Kyoto and Tokyo (lol twin brothers?) seemed to go flawlessly. Let's wait a bit.

I think it depends where you live and how good your connection is. If you're trying to connect with DSL, you should just wait a few days for the online traffic to die down and/or Nintendo balances the load the load somehow.
