Kotaku Reviews Ikaruga

Dine_Agoti | April 15, 2008 | Reviews | XBOX 360
Touted as one of the most challenging and aesthetically pleasing games of its genre, the classical arcade shooter Ikaruga has been ported to both the Dreamcast and GameCube. Now, debuting on Xbox Live Arcade, the guys at Kotaku are giving their opinion on Ikaruga's latest port in this mostly favorable review.
Ikaruga is not for everyone, but it's arguably one of the best values to hit Xbox Live Arcade, considering how much many of us paid for the import Dreamcast version (or the Naomi one!). The appeal may be limited due to its niche genre and unforgiving difficulty, but even if you've never played a Treasure shooter before, you owe it to yourself to see what the fuss is about.

It's the best game on XBL arcade IMO, but sadly a lot of people really don't like these shooter games (primarily because of the difficulty). Ikaruga is a bit different as well, and even I have trouble getting used to it despite playing shooters quite often. Nonetheless, it's a damn good games with a lot of aesthetic appeal for everyone.

I have the Gamecube version and love playing this game vertically with my monitor flipped. I agree this isn't for everyone though. But with that said I honestly don't understand why people complain about the difficulty of this game. Not to hype myself up (because aside from R-type this is one of the only shmps I play) but I didn't find this game to be as challenging as it is said to be.

If you love games and love great game design then do youurself a favour and pick this one up.

The only difficulty for me is the color aspect of it, and I tend to not pay enough attention to which color my ship is and coincidentally I get hit when I shouldn't. I'm definitely used to shooters, so I'll be getting this within the week (played it on GCN).
