PSP Landstalker remake appears scrapped

chautemoc | August 08, 2008 | Rumor | Playstation Portable
Landstalker is kind of like a cult version of A Link to the Past. The games share similarities, but the former is not terribly well-known, though beloved by those who are familiar with it. Climax Entertainment, the game's developer, put up a teaser image on its website in the past for a remake of the game, but was taken down sometime in the last few months. Since the game was planned for the PSP in 2006, we can effectively assume the title has been scrapped, which is a shame.

Steal Princess for the DS, in progress by Climax, is described by insertcredit as looking to be a "worthy successor", so at least there's that to look forward to.

Some diorama and alpha footage is in the quote.
Climax hasn’t said anything about the PSP remake of Landstalker for years so it’s hardly surprising that it may have been quietly scrapped. At some time this was actually in development. Brandon has an interesting story where he spoke to Kan Naito, one of the original members on the Sega Genesis team and the Vice President of Climax Entertainment, about transitioning the Genesis’ isometric view to a full 3D world. In case you’re wondering what the 3D world may have looked like checkout this video from Tokyo Game Show. Landstalker still lives on as a Virtual Console game and spiritually in Steal Princess.
