While at the Games Convention in Leipzig, PCGH got a chance to play Crysis Warhead. They used a PC that contained Core 2 Extreme, 4GB of RAM, and a Geforce GTX 260 graphics card. PCGH noticed that the game was only running in DX 9 mode and that you weren't able to change any of the settings.

The game began with a introduction video, Psycho takes out a soldier with the cloaking ability on his Nanosuit. All that time 2,146 MB was being used, while Crysis never exceeded 1,300MB, which can cause PCs with 2GB of RAM to lag.

PCGH does note that Crytek probably just hasn't had time to optimize the game yet. Let's hope that's the case, or else a lot of people will have to play through the laggy parts of the game.

After the intro there was a spectacular car chase with an included air strike. Here the memory usage increased to 2,180 MiByte. The framerate was around 35 fps and fell to 29 fps in challenging scenes. In the following scene we took a harbor on foot. Here the fps rate was round 35 pictures per second and Crysis Warhead used up to 2,190 MiByte. But you have to bear in mind that Crytek got a lot of time for optimizations. We are anxious to see the final version.

I'm sure they had time to optimize. They just wanted to show it off. Would be pretty crazy to need 4GB for the final product just to run properly.

Seriously, what is Crytek's mission statement for their company ?

"We'll make video games that will result in the mutilation of your computer's hardware."

While they weren't running in DX10, perhaps the resolutions and details were all ramped up a lot?

That'd be hilarious if Crysis needed 4GBs. If that was the case, no doubt they say it didn't sell well because of 'piracy'.
