PSP 3000 to support PS3 controller?

There are rumors of the PS3 controller being compatible with the PSP 3000. An insider at Best Buy tipped off someone at Maxconsole. The PSP 300 releases on the 14th of October 2008.
Maxconsole is claiming that the upcoming PSP 3000 can be played using a PlayStation 3 controller, having been tipped off by an inside contact at Best Buy. Maybe Sony does love our thumb joints after all.

The insider also revealed that the latest PSP model would support 480i cables when playing games on a TV set, in addition to the standard component 480p.

Sony has already announced that the redesigned handheld will feature a ramped-up LCD screen - think crisper, more intense colours and less glare when playing outside - and a built-in microphone. It's out on October 14 in the US, October 15 in Europe and October 16 in Australia.

We've contacted the manufacturer for comment.

It's the latest model. Small updates and whatnot to the system. This probably should've been explained in the article..partly my fault.

Mostly my fault, should have explained it. Even though I don't really know much about it either...

Twistedit:- It talks about it in the quote.

As mentioned the 3000 is the latest model. Changes include:
      • Brighter screen
      • Change in the "home" button (cosmetic change)
      • Built in microphone
      • Shorter battery life

Shorter battery life? Not exactly a good thing...
I don't see a huge improvement besides the brighter screen.

        Thanks for that Tekmo.

Oh yes cause Bush is really unrealiable.

John Kerry is one of the most unrealiable, *bleep* tards in the world with his flip flopping of issues. If the Democrats had better candidates maybe bush wouldn't have won the second term eh?

Anyway not to go completely off topic, this makes no sense. How would a PS3 controller be compatible with a PSP, I mean you can't exactly hold both.

It makes perfect sense, you can use a PS3 controller when your PSP is connected to the TV.

How exactly? Remember both the PSP and PS3 controller needs a small USB connector to be put in the system. Then there's the whole thing why you'd want to play using a PS3 controller? It makes no sense.

If a supermodel had that size, she/he would be pretty super indeed lol

Yeah, it is a model number (PSP 2000 is the PSP Slim, the current model).....

i think it is just a model number, it will probably just be a PSP on it's box but it will probably be the basis of how the unit is organised in warehouses like PSP-3000-128 which would work out as product/model/unit number respectively.

    This looks legit.
Here is a patent Sony filed back in July 2007 for Dual Shock compatibility with the PSP.

    United States Patent Application

Hopefully they will make these features work for PSP 2000 via firmware updates.

It probably would work best if you had your PSP hooked up to your TV when using a Dual Shock Controller.

It will probably connect via usb cable since blue-tooth wasn't announced for the PSP 3000. Also neither the current PSP or DS have bluetooth.

Final Blade You don't use the mini-B usb port to connect to the TV, there is a port on the bottom next to the headphone jack for that. Also Sony could easily make a usb cable that's mini-B on both ends. And as to why you'd want to play using a PS3 controller. Simple, playing a PSP for a long period of time can be quite painful.

Remember that the PS3 controller is wireless. The PS3 controller would be much better to play with in my opinion.

      The PSP is portable CWIDT

Not really LiveWire. I have no problems playing my PSP for long periods of time, and I have some what big hands too.

This rumor turned out to be true. But it looks like a PS3 is required to make it work. Resistance: Retribution & Resistance 2 Interoperability and Then Some

this is a stupid feature if true who is going to play psp with a ps3 controller

Well I would like to. Resistance Retribution will play allot better with a PS3 controller because auto aim is turned off, and rumble is added, plus it will be more comfortable to play with a PS3 controller.
