Xbox 360 Arcade down to £129?

Twisted | September 12, 2008 | Rumor | XBOX 360
There are rumors going around that Microsoft could slash the prices of the Xbox 360 arcade in England to £129.99. It would make the arcade about 50 cheaper than the Wii, and £170 cheaper than the £80GB PS3.
An upcoming price cut could slash the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade console down to £129.99, a supposed insider at shop chain Woolworths has claimed.

A leaked pic from a supposed "upcoming catalogue" shows the new incredibly cheap Arcade asking price, along with new £169.99 and £229.99 price points for the Core and Elite console respectively.

The new price would make the Arcade SKU 49.99 cheaper than a Wii - and £170 cheaper than a 80GB PS3.

We spoke to staffers at Game and Game Station who told us that they were unaware of any upcoming price cut. A spokesman for the earlier said that pricing was likely a move from Woolworths to undercut other retailers - though we're not convinced.

Remind me but isn't the Arcade version VERY VERY basic? Can someone just remind me what the difference between the Arcade Version and the Elite version please, since I know that the Elite Version is pretty much the same price of the 80GB PS3 (with no games or anything, the 80GB is pretty much that price now). So can someone explain whats in the Arcade and whats in the Elite version please.

I'm not an expert on this, but I think that the Elite has 120 GB, the Pro has 60GB, and the Arcade has 528 MB. Yes, it is very very basic.

And how much would say a 100 GB Hard-drive cost for the XBOX360? And also, does the Arcade version have wireless ability (i.e. can it connect to a wireless router straight out of the box?) If not how much does that cost? They're pretty much the two things that you'd need to buy along with the XBOX360 to get what the Playstation 3 has right out of the box (if we take the coming-soon 80GB version that is).

I don't know the price of the HDD, But the Wireless receiver is around £50, But that's only if you want it. For those of whom don't want to use wireless( A great majority) you don't have to pay extra for it.

Which is the exact reason why it's so much cheaper...
It plays games. Sometimes that's enough.

Having watched videos on my Playstation 3, and actually used it AS a media center, I really think Sony out did themselves. I never initially cared about it as a Media Center, but once I used it, I don't think I've ever stopped using it.

In any case, it seems that when you add the wireless dongle and the Harddrive (which I believe is around £70-£80) the price of the XBOX360 Arcade version looks familiar close to that of the PS3 if not higher.

Exactly Krunal, thats why the arcade is so basic and not many care for it. Many people who are big gamers or hardcore gamers, tend to either get the elite and Pro(or Premium). Since it has a harddrive with it standard like Elite. When I get my 360 its going to either be the Elite or Premium(pro).

They're also lowering the arcades price cause its losing alot of sales.
