45nm Cell Processor will start going into PS3s next year

Tyranitar24 | September 22, 2008 | Rumor | Playstation 3 Gaming Tech/Hardware
Nikkan, a Japanese newspaper, has reported that starting in 2009, Sony and Toshiba will start putting in a 45nm cell processor in the PS3, which would reduce the energy the console uses and could open up the door for a slimmer system.

Since none of this has been confirmed, it will be treated as a rumor.

The smaller chip which cost less than the current 65nm Cell to manufacture also require 40% less power to run. This opens the door to possible price drops on existing PS3 consoles in 2009 as well as slimmer, cooler running rigs should Sony decide to refresh the industrial design.

    Yay, environmentally friendly(ier?) PS3's!
    I'm not getting one though.
    I already have a 60GB PS3.

Well, I think that settles it. I'll be getting a PS3 once these come out I think. The timing works out great, anyway.
Assuming the new version isn't a slim version, I'll just trade up when that comes. Weeee.
