New Xbox 360 experience could have web browser!

LazySAGamer | September 29, 2008 | Rumor | XBOX 360
Could it be possible that the NXE will come bundled with a web browser? According to a flash video on Xbox.com it may be, though the flash video is more than likely referring to a games catalogue browse but the idea is still intriguing
Internet Explorer on Xbox 360? It could happen, there might be proof, it could be right in front of us. During the new welcome video that Microsoft have on the Xbox website, a quarter of the way when they scroll through the new sections, there is a section called browse. It cuts to the next shot before we have a chance to see what loads in the box below so we never get to see if it’s anything special.

I'm sure Microsoft would have announced such a feature by now. It makes no sense for them to keep something like this under wraps. I hope it's true, though!

They could keep it under wraps, to plan a surprise to the gamers when they boot up their 360's in November and receive the update for the dashboard, along with Internet Explorer. I would enjoy it.

Business is rarely about planning nice suprises. Microsoft are attempting to drum up as much hype as they can with the New Xbox Experience in order to keep current owners interested whilst attracting new ones. It's in their favour to announce everything as soon as possible.

Interesting idea for sure. It kinds of necessitates a USB Keyboard or the QWERTY Keyboard attachment for controllers.

@Pyrazor - It has both >_> It supports USB keyboards, and a controller attachment touchpad was released som time ago (for the messenger feature).

Meh, it says 'Browse', not 'browser'. I assume 'Browse', would allow you to browse through your games and game content (like, A to Z). Notice how it is in the game section?

It's obviously not a browser. They wouldn't put it in a list of download types, that makes no sense.

Except on an actual personal computer and in some cases, portable devices, these web browsers are lame.

Who cares? The PS3 Browser sucks, The iPod browser sucks, the PSP browser sucks -- why are people expecting this one to be any good?

I wouldn't say that the PSP browser sucks, it is kind of slow but not to bad considering it's on a portable device. I use the PSP browser all the time and I'm glad that it's included on the PSP. And the Wii proves that consoles can have really good internet browsers. Also it's always good to give people the option of using a web browser if they want. I'm really hoping this rumor turns out to be true.

I don't see why MS wouldn't include a browser. Their two competitors both have them so it only makes sense for the 360 to obtain a browser of their own as well. Chances are it will be running IE, I mean it *is* MS.

It says Browse,as in browse your games, Not Browser.

I would like it to be true, but right now I doubt it alot.

I don't get what's the point of having a web browser on a console. Yeah iPod touch/iPhone and PSP browsers suck too but they actually have a use since they are portable and may have some use.

But a web browser on stationary hardware when I could just use my PC or laptop which is easier to browse the web with and that I could do more with while browsing the net? Lame.

News flash, not everyone has a damn PC so obviously having a system that has online and a web browser is a god send. Hell All you need is a keyboard and mouse and you got yourself a videogame console PC. I know several Neoseeker members who do not have a PC and have consoles that does. And how they're able to post on site.

Just having the option is better then not having it.

With Wifi you can get a connection and go online even with a phone line. Its pretty easy, I know that from experience actually.

My grandparents don't have a PC and yet im able to go online with my PSP.

I Doubt people without a PC would even buy a PS3. Plus Final, why do your grandparents own a router if they don't even have a PC?

Final Blade is probably using the neighbors Wifi network.

I don't understand why people are so negative about Internet browsers on consoles, if you don't like them don't use them. But most people like having access the Internet there to use if they want to or not.

I do, all the time. The PS3's browser. It needs a lot of improvement, but it is quicker than booting up my 10 year old computer >_>
