Nintendo Plans HD Wii for 2011 - Speculation

Dark Arcanine | September 30, 2008 | Rumor | Wii Company
Would you like a HD Nintendo Wii? According to what they play, there's strong enough evidence to point out that this may just become reality... but not until 2011 anyway.

The description of the upgrade is “the shift from Game Boy to Game Boy Advance”. In simplicity it's still relatively the same product, but at the same time it has enough improvement to justify its purchase.

What lead people to such speculation? It came down to the combination of sales statistics and the "general life span" of a video game console.

Would you buy one?
High definition visuals are assured, as is a greater emphasis on digitally distributed and backwardly compatible content, indicating that the new system will feature some form of local storage medium such as a hard drive or large flash memory solution. It has also been indicated that Nintendo’s emphasis is again on what the consumer will hold in their hands and interact with, rather than the “console” itself.

To be quite honest, no. I don't think the Wii needs to have HD at the current time. I mean the sales are continuing to rise even without HD. Also I wouldn't mind grabbing a Wii 2 with HD. But again, at the current time I do not see a massive need for HD. What I do see is better selection of games and not this shovelware we keep seeing.

By the time I buy a Wii, this might be out already.

I look forward to the games that they'll bring out for it. Of course it's not just about the HD feature, I mean take note of the other rumoured stuff such as the hard drive.

What the *bleep* are they thinking i mean seriously, anyone stupid enough to buy a new Wii just for a HDMI port and nothing more needs to be shot. The console won't be changing what are Nintendo playing at, i mean this isn't the DS or the Gameboy it's a proper console, small upgrades like that when every other manufacturer is properly upgrading is as good as blowing your brains out.

There's more than just HD if you read through it. There's promises of other things such as a hard drive for storage. It'll obviously offer more games and better graphics, sound and whatnot. It only seems like it's not good enough because it looks the same... but considering it won't be until 2011 they probably will change the design, just keep the same name. It's like what they did with the Gameboy, Gameboy Colour and Gameboy Advance.

I agree that for Wii 2, there should be one. But not for the original.

It also has backwardly compatible digitally remastered graphics. It'd be so freaking fun to play melee or double dash in HD.
Also, new channels may be coming out.
    Weel just wait and see.

I agree with one upgrades for each handheld: it's traditional, and sparks the interest in the console for a second time. But this is ridiculous. A second upgrade for the DS, and an upgrade for a home console? Just make the next *bleep*ing generation, for Heaven's sake.
