Sony to offer rewards for earning trophies?

The OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) has a rather interesting tidbit of info in their latest issue. While it is still a rumor the magazine has reason to believe Sony may implement a system to give rewards to users who earn lots of trophies on their PS3's. Considering trophies and the 360 equivalents achievements haven't really had a point before now this could be an excellent move.

"We’ve heard that SCEA is mulling over some sort of Trophy reward system. We doubt it’ll be cash (or the equivalent) but we suspect it might be exclusive access to early betas and the like."

    Wow, sounds cool. Finally, there might actually be a use for all the trophies! Most likely with Achievements, too.

      It is, and still will be. This is just saying you'll actually be rewarded for getting trophies then just having it as bragging points.

      Im not holding my breath, its not going to happen.

    It'd be nice to get PS Store credits through them or even just additional content from the developers. Although some companies would be way too cheap with what is released.

    I like the idea of this I just hope it is pretty cool rewards, nothing fancy, but something that makes you excited and such.

    About time they became more then just bragging rights and actually physically rewarded you for playing and accomplishing more in thier games.

    This may turn me from being addicted to Acheivements, to addicted to trophies. If it is to offer credit-like rewards for future PSN purchases, then Ill disregard 360 Achievements altogether quite frankly. I get achievements for my own satisfaction, not to boast about them. So I have nothing to lose by switching over.

    This has the potential to be a fantastic move on Sony's part. I just hope that PSN credits and boosts to the PS Wallet are given out. Then im sold!

    Hopefully something like useable credits to use towards payments of PSN items. That's be sweet.

    Well, they say it's doubtful it'll be store credit, but earlier access to betas, and maybe exclusive offers might be nice.

    I don't even have ONE trophy, even though I have two games with trophies (trophy support came out AFTER I got the game, and no retroactivity, even though the games are all set up to be trophy-like).

    LBP will net me my first trophies, I'm quite sure.
