A member from the Game Trailers forums has posted some possible Firmware 2.70 features. There is no real source or announcement from Sony, however if this is true then the features will probably make you drool as they are just some of the ones we have been asking Sony to give us for ages. Though the update is supposed to be released in the second quarter of 09, I'm sure everyone can be excited about this.

2.70 Features

Friends List:
- Voice Messaging is now available as an alternative to text after selecting a user on the friends list. Voice message recordings are capped at 30 seconds.
- Home Integration: Saved Playstation Home avatar photos can be selected as photo ID for Gamer Card/Friends List.
- Trophy number and Gamer Level are listed under Friend names for quick reference.

Gamer Card & Trophies:
- Gamer Card layout has been changed to more closely resemble the Playstation Store aesthetic.
- Past Trophy information can be viewed in detail by selecting "Recent Trophy History" option.
- Newly aquired trophies auto-sync in the background
- Server infrastructure for Trophies has been optimized. Resulting in faster retrieval time for Gamer Card and Trophy information.

In-Game XMB:
- Loading time for In-Game XMB has been drastically reduced, resulting in a more seemless in-game experience.
- "Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.
- Internet Browser can now be accessed while in-game.
- Voice messaging and voice chat options can be used while in-game.
- Options that cannot be used in the XMB during game sessions are grayed out (but still selectable) to eliminate user accessibility confusion.

Misc:
- Other slight UI tweaks and enhancements.

'"Theme settings" options while in-game is now available, allowing custom themes to be applied to the In-Game XMB.' This alone makes me think that this is a fake. Right now we get an opaque fade out xmb so we can still see the game. I doubt they would they would change this that much.

A lot of those features seem pretty bogus, if not technologically too demanding for the PS3 to handle. That in itself leads me to believe that this list has BS intermittent throughout. Some of it seems possible, but other things seem like a fanboy's hopeful attempt at hyping hopeful features that aren't coming.

Bummer if they don't integrate Party chat or any form of voice chat (msgs don't count). Alot of PS3boys have been riding xboxs back over that for a while lol.

If this didn't stink of BS then i would say these features are pretty cool and need to integrated into the console.

These are not too technologically demanding at all, all of this is pretty basic stuff now for online service. Im sorry if this sounds fanboyish i don't mean it to but if the XBOX360 can do it then surely the PS3 with its superior technology can do it aswell with no problems.

If this is true you can expect me to rub this in a 360 fanboys face very soon. . I can't wait!

Yeah it'll be hilarious. You'll be all like "SUP NOOBS. Guess what? In another half a year I can do some extremely basic online features on my PS3. LOL"

And they'll be like "Oh no! I've been enjoying them for years! Now that you'll have a percentage of the basic features Live offers I might as well just kill myself! Halo ruuuuules!"

Then you and shattered will high five.

    Yeeeaaah. Right. Sure, uh huh.

I am about 98% sure this is fake, simply due to the fact that these are things that have been wanted for quite some time, and then all of a sudden it happens . . . in one firmware update? Nope!

If they were doing something like this, believe me, they'd hype it up by mentioning something like "You'll like 2.7! We're working on introducing a lot of features you've been asking for" Just like they did with less intriguing updates in the past.

Not to mention, this is from a forum . . . . just a forum. Which is most likely just a "What do you want" list.

You realize that the reason Sony isn't promoting it is because they haven't announced it yet; This was supposedly leaked. The update comes in Q2, so they still have an ample amount of time to do that if they wish, and also, why not put everything we've been wanting in one firmware update? Would you rather have 10 consecutive updates, 1 for each feature? That would be ridiculously annoying.

Besides, I'm sure the PS3 can do these things, Sony never said it couldn't...

I know the PS3 can handle it and I'm nearly 100% confident they will add all those things---IN TIME.

As for Sony not promoting it, my point is that they promoted certain features/FW updates with big features LONG BEFORE, as in 6 months even, the update coming out in the past. So surely with such an update containing ALL these wanted features in one package, they would say something most likely, far in advance.
I never said I didn't want these things in one package, I merely said that it's unlikely to come in one package (personally I would love it, but that is improbable to happen). This fact and the fact that the source is from a forum member on a forum, this appears to simply be a "What would you like in 2.70 update?" that I find so many times on other forums, even a more official forum such as the PLAYSTATION forums themselves! Go ahead, check out that place and you'll either see the exact same thing, or similar posts . . . and have no validity.

This is pretty much what I meant above. The source is too sketchy, and the convenience is just too, well, convenient. Unfortunately Sony is not known for delivering such things so well.

Can't see how this is true without any official sources whatsoever.

I'm no tech head, but I can't see having the web browser open while in game as being possible, surely the PS3 doesn't have enough RAM to carry out such an operation.

Haven't you played Ratchet & Clank: Quest 4 Booty? From the main menu you can launch the web browser (I can't remember what exactly it was actually for) but I was playing around with it and noticed that if you hit the bookmarks button then you could load up your bookmarked page in that window, I loaded Neoseeker fine.

So it is indeed possible, but you may have to quit to the main menu to do it, so there isn't a lot of memory being taken up by the game.

Why not just quit back to them XMB then? That would just be a pointless addition if you had to quit to the main menu of a game.

Not really, I know I can be pretty patient, but even I don't like waiting all the time for the game to load up to the main menu, going through all the dev credit and all that.

This is pretty much a list of everything that will make the ps3 perfect in one update. And that is how it is fake.
