Recently Microsoft and Bungie touted the milestone one-billionth game played on Halo 3's online component. Even more recently, talk is up about Halo 3:ODST, and what the plot is concerning the game. However, what is most prevalent is mentions of Master Chief's return to the Halo series once more. As is seen in the last paragraph, Halo franchise development director Frank O'Connor clearly teases that Halo 4 has a strong possibility of showing up.

The game, O'Connor says, "is significantly more than an add-on. It's a lot of game. You play the game through the point of view of an ODST. They are dropped into combat from orbit. They have a rivalry with the Spartans that is well known to the fans of the fiction. We finally let you into their boots as it were. …It's kind of a detective story in a way. But it is much more action-packed than that."

As for the franchise's main character, O'Connor says, "I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief."

    Interesting.

I know alot of people will be all over this post, flaming it and what not.

But i for one welcome a Halo 4. It means more changes to the multiplayer and a brand new storyline, hell i've liked all of the Halo storylines so far.

If its anything like the last 3, this one will be a huge success and dominate the multiplayer network.

Red 9 already expressed his anti-Microsoft-continuing-Halo sentiments on Neoseeker's article concerning a similar topic. xD

I guess giving props to Halo's multiplayer is considered hate then

H3 screamed "The Amazing conclusion to the Halo series!"

They may make H4, I doubt they will continue on MC's story. (Prequel? Not halowars.)

I have no doubt that we haven't seen the last of the Chief, but with the Flood pretty much wasted/contained at the moment and the Covenant, well the Elites and those that support the Elites at least off rebuilding, now allies with humanity to a degree and Truth dead (who basically started everything) all I can really see happening is a few possiblities.
    A) Some new prophets take over and, namely the Brutes, fight and cause problems.
    B) Something else to do with the Forerunners takes center stage of the story.
    C) Flood somehow make a return.
    D) A new enemy is introduced.
    E) Humanity creates it's own enemy/has infighting.

It'll be interesting to see what they end up doing really, but Bungie is probably going to have it's hands full trying to come up with something that is going to be as awesome as the current Halo series has been.

has anyone seen the end of halo 3 on legendary? if microsoft wanted to end the life of the master chief then he would of died. he didnt. hes alive and there will be another halo with the chief as the main character. and to be honest that would be awesome. as long as the story is good then keep making halo games!

no he wont. he came full circle cause of the whole thing with the cryo container things (the tube Chief woke up in in the PoA in the beginning of Halo 1). he went back into another one in the Legendary ending. Chief is done being the main character, now there will be others as the main character in future games.

Chief could still show up as cameos though.

"Finish the Fight" was the line used for Halo 3.
But you can have more than one fight.
With clever storytelling mechanics and refreshing addicting gameplay, Halo 4 and beyond are happily welcomed here.

I would eventually like to see the Halo franchise conclude and Microsoft put their motivation and energy behind another game franchise. It will be interesting to see how Velvet Assassin goes when it launches for the 360/PC in April; hopefully doing well and creating what could be the start of a fantastic franchise.

They need to fix the disaster of a story at the end of Halo (No I didnt like turning round and activating the thing I spent 3 games trying to prevent) and they'll have to update gameplay but I smell a Halo 4 and I sense a epic battle is brewing.

Everyone knew they were never gonna stop at Halo 3.

I do agree that the end of 3 was kinda poor, lets see what they've got for 4 (if this is true of course)

The Halo series is to popular for Bungie and Microsoft to cancel after the 3rd one.

Halo Wars is an excellent next step for the franchise but, Halo will always be about first person shooters above all.

I think I'd be great if they made Halo 4. Mainly for the action-packed storylines and the impressive online multi-player.

Uh, I said this on the last Halo story: Did anyone think they weren't going to make Halo 4? I mean that has to about as obvious as the fact that there will be a PlayStation 4.

Halo 3 ODST pretty much is Halo 4. plus they said the Chief would never be the main character in another game ever again. but he could still show up for cameos.
