No, this isn't another one of Michael Pachter's inane predictions. This time these predictions are coming from a mole over at Ars Technica. Before you arbitrarily dismiss Nostradamus' predictions here, this person's been known to have been correct about the 360 price cut last year, the Resident Evil 5 360 bundle, and the PSP Go. He states that Sony will reveal a price cut for the PS3 simultaneously with the announcement of the PS3 Slim. As for Microsoft, he says that they will phase out the Pro system and concentrate more on the Elite through bundles and a price cut. He didn't provide any figures for the price cuts, other than that they would certainly be done by the holiday season.

For those who willingly believe this, make sure you take this information with a grain of salt. For the skeptics, at the very least, it's an entertaining read.

Our favorite inside source has given us a heads-up on what to expect from both Sony and Microsoft this year in hardware packages and pricing. The path to the holidays is a rosy one, with more hard drive space inside the systems at a lower price. Here's what we can expect.

Since we can't name the source, we're treating all this information as rumor, but the Mole's reputation in the industry for breaking large stories, a long history of being first out of the gate with big announcements, and an outstanding track record for accuracy speak for themselves.

Sony and the PS3

The 80GB model is going to see some serious hardware constraints in the weeks ahead, and retailers have about 60 days worth of inventory before the systems will become hard to find. Expect to see many more 160GB units on store shelves. Those units have no constraints yet, but if the retailers sell through that supply as quickly as they did the 80GB, Sony is in a good place for the final part of its plan in 2009: dropping the price of hardware and launching the PS3 Slim in the fall.

    Mo-Mo-MOLE...

Cut it anymore and the 360 will cost the same as a fancy dinner cake.

Loving the pic. I was gonna say Mo-Mo-MOLE. But you took it first =[

Still. I think the price is okay now. 60gb 360 is about 40 quid cheaper than the PS which aint too bad imo.

But then again, i've got my PS, I don't care if they cut the price..

I think the PS3 does need a price cut. Here in England, I think the lowest priced PS3 is still £100 more than the Premium 360. Leave the 360 as it is: Put the PS3 down £50-£100.

You know, given the increasing frequency of these rumors lately, maybe it's just ominous that it's bound to happen pretty soon. Just my hunch, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised given all these leaks that are occurring in the industry these days.

The Mole is somebody within the industry, he has been only right all the time, for a while now:

The death of the 80GB PS3
        The 60GB Xbox 360
2008 Arcade, Pro, and Elite price drops
Resident Evil 5 bundle with Red 360
        Patapon 2 being UMD-free
Announced $400 360 Elite bundle with Halo 3 and Fable 2
        PSP-Go confirmed before E3

All anounced by him well before they happened. All having to do with hardware/retail for the most part.

Yeah I don't doubt that with all the price cut rumours it's bound to happen, if for no other reason than Sony getting tired of hearing the rumours too Lol

But I believe the price cut will happen, in time, but it's like those people who tell you something, then ask you 5 minutes later "Hey, did I ever tell you about..." and you say "Yes, 5 minutes ago" and then they proceed to either say "Oh" or they tell you anyway . . . then the process is repeated in 5 minute intervals.

Makes you want to say, "YES! I know, I get it, you told me, okay! Please stop!"
