There seems to be some controversy surrounding the review scores of Batman: Arkham Asylum. Various magazines have apparently been told by Eidos that they will receive their review copy early if they promise to give the game a score of at least 9/10. Check out the link for more details!

Several mags have their review code already, but have to sit on their reviews until a hateful embargo expires at the end of the month. But Eidos, ever the helpful fellows that they are, have been offering a way around this embargo. If you dedicate the cover of your mag to Arkham Asylum and guarantee a score of at least 90%, Eidos will allow you to run the review early.

Batman doesn't need this. It will get good reviews anyway.

It seems like a great game, so hopefully it will come through.

Feels like Kane and Lynch all over again.

    I'm reminded of a comic I saw about this a good while back . . .

    I don't know . . . I am almost doubting that they're doing that. I mean, it's nowhere close to needing it!

    I doubt this is true.

Although, I'm quite sure that Eidos is a bit worried that the game won't live up to The Filipino Batman Musical. I can only find two scenes on youtube here and here, but God knows I wish I could find the rest...It's such a masterpiece.

(I've been waiting for a Batman article for a while, just so I could post those videos...)

What?! That's not disturbing! That's awesome!!

I mean, what other youtube videos are capable of eliciting such raw emotions of fear and discomfort and "Oh my eyes and ears!" as well as hilarity all at the same time?!

That must be an excellent horror Batman show!

I find this hard to believe, but believable nonetheless.

On the one hand B:AA looks like a brilliant game not needing such treachery. On the other hand Eidos have acted like complete morons more than once or twice in the past.

If this is true does this mean they don't have confidence in the game?... Perhaps it's just the fanboy in me but I don't believe it... yet.

By the way, first review is published for the game one month early, and they gave it a 96 (link).

As a note, I used to be subscribed to the magazine (until June I think) and honestly...it's not very good, lol. Still, I think the game will be.

Yeah, I've seen that. The mag also had Batman: Arkham Asylum featured on the cover and gave it over 90%..

Although, I think the game will live up to the hype.

The crummy thing is , that with Eidos doing this sneaky PR stuff, even the game legitmately deserves a 96/100 , many people are going to think it only got that rating because of the sneaky moves. It must suck to be the developer. I wish Eidos didn't pull their BS [allegedly]

Maybe if they actually made a quality game, they wouldn't have to worry about boosting scores. I mean, is it that hard for them to make a game they can have confidance with?

That's the weird part, though -- this actually seems like a great game.

Eidos is a disgraceful company that has no shame when it comes to these things, and they're definitely capable of something like this. I didn't even realize that the game was being made by Eidos. Looks like it's just a rental for me then. Sorry Batman, but I have principles.

It's not made by them, it's published by them. Developers are less often dishonest.

That's true. But I still feel less willing to give my money to such a shady company. Perhaps I'll just wait until it's for sale used... but then GameStop gets it, and they're not much better, huh? Lol. Just can't win.

There's stores other than Gamestop if you look hard enough though..haha.

I like to think that Eidos aren't stupid enough to fix the review scores for another game (since the backlash they recieved from gamers last time they tried it), but the sad thing is that these sorts of rumors will leave some people doubting whether or not the game is worth buying. And that's a shame. Especially considering the game looks like it will live up to the hype.

I find it really hard to think the game will be poor by any stretch, but even besides that, I don't think I want it given the high possibility they are..I don't want to support such a sleazy publisher.

The pathetic thing is...when Eidos messed with reviews in the past they only got to a small percentage of reviewers, so the scores still averaged out and showed how good/bad the games truly were. It just seems so pointless to try it again when it hasn't worked in the past. In the end, all they're doing is making the game look bad and putting people off buying it. It's a shame that this kind of shit happens. >_>

I'll still end up getting the game - I'm not going to let Eidos prevent me from enjoying a game that I want, but it's worrying knowing that big sales will probably only encourage Eidos to do it again in future.

          Good point!
I wouldn't think it's so hard to be honest, but I guess that's what happens in such a competitive field..but still, yeah, like you said, what's their reason for this? It's so counter productive.

Yeah exactly, that's basically why I don't want to. *bleep*. I don't know. I'll probably get it if it does turn out to be great..I suffer too much being stringent with my morals. I'll probably write them an angry email though.

Eidos has done it before and it's been confirmed by news editors in various video game blogs. I'm not surprised this be true.

Who cares about this. Really. I mean, Batman fans are still going to buy the game on launch, and thus far, Eidos/Rocksteady have given gamers great gameplay footage and trailers thus far that make the game look terrific. From everything we've seen, Arkham Asylum is going to be class. Plus, people that have PLAYED THE DEMO have said it looks to NOT be a letdown in any way.

I don't get it? What's the problem? This is awesome!

I'll just call up Eidos, tell them I'll give it a at least a 9/10 and I'll be getting my copy in the mail soon. IT'S FOOLPROOF!
