Super_Secret is an N4G forum user who claims to work for Sony in some way, and accurately predicted a number of PS3 Slim details in the past. He is also claiming a PSP-4000 is in the works. He/she recently posted:

“Who said the 3000 wasn’t being phased out? It will be and sooner than you realise. However, the PSP Go isn’t what’s replacing it. The 4000 is. And yes, it will have a UMD drive.”

Sony has previously stated that it will continue to support the UMD drive. It was assumed at the time, that they meant they were still going to release games for the PSP-3000. Do you think Sony plans to extend the life of the UMD drive to beyond the PSP-3000?

    Too many SKU's... >_<

While I guess it's good that usually each one released is an upgrade and improvement to the previous ones, I miss the old days when there was only one of each console.

I don't see the point in a 4000 coming along... not yet at least, I mean they offer the Go as an alternative to the 3000. So if this was built to phase out the 3000, then it would be made phase out the Go as well.
