The Japanese Final Fantasy XIII box art has apparently been released, revealing that the game has no optional or mandatory install, and only uses up 500kb of hard drive space for a save game.

Specifically, the back of the box states that the game has No Optional or Mandatory install, only using up 500kb of hard drive space for a save game. This is great news for PS3 owners, and indicates that the game will run as smoothly as the demo did.

The image also confirms that the PS3 version will have super high quality LPCM 5.1 audio and the CGI sequences will be in full 1080p HD rather than the 720p that was feared.

While the game itself does run in 720p, this means the FMVs on PS3 will be of the highest possible quality. This may be the advantage PS3 will have over Xbox 360, as fitting lossless audio and large FMVs on a DVD will prove difficult.

Lossless audio = awesome. Sadly most people aren't going to notice the difference.

I read the comments to see if there was anyone else speculating the authenticity of this and it just reminded me of why I stopped reading youtube comments

Good thing that they didn't scrimp on the PS3 version just for the 360 version. As I still consider it to be a PS3 game with a 360 port (which I'm very grateful for by the way).

    Nice going Square

What does lossless audio mean? Does it mean the audio is not compressed?

Pretty much yeah. On the other hand, it could just mean something like FLAC encoding which has some compression but at no loss of quality.

The big thing is really that hardly anyone is going to notice the difference, but to the people with speakers where you can tell the difference (like me) it's really an awesome feature to have. More specifically, it makes surround sound gaming much better.

No but yes. Lossless audio is compressed but this type of compression allows for the exact same original audio data to be reconstructed from the compressed audio. So it is effectively compressed in size with absolutely no loss in clarity, pretty nifty eh?
