Don't know if this is true or not but the news wouldn't surprise me. Both Microsoft and Sony will always be revising the hardware to make the innards cheaper and more reliable. But mostly cheaper.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer recently commented on the possibility of new Xbox 360 form factors and the possibility of another hardware revision of the Xbox 360 for this year has been strong as well. Now, an image has surfaced that supposedly shows the internals of an Xbox 360 completely redesigned with both the GPU and CPU on a single chip.

hopefully the new design will stop the RROD problem.

If the initial RRoD's were caused by overheating, wouldn't a smaller case and a more compact design make that issue worse?

Not if the way its laid out so the heat escapes better no. Also if the chip produces less heat. No.

The heat generated has already been reduced significantly since the original design. I have a Xenon (original) and a Jasper (latest revision) and the Jasper produces significantly less heat. Going from two 45nm chips to a single chip would reduce the heat even more.

In any case, the RRoDs were caused as much by poor mounting design as it was caused by heat.

The 360 is the most literal case of a cluster*bleep*. It's like they stacked everything on top of one another and thought that would end well.
