According to a rumor from Go Fanboy, MS is planning to rebrand their console line by dropping the "Xbox" name. Because of this move by MS, IGN and FOX Interactive Media are Closing TeamXbox in response.

Microsoft wasn’t kidding when they said they planned on launching Natal like an entirely new console. It appears that the company intends to finish off the Xbox name after the Xbox 360. This is obviously a surprise considering the time and money that goes into building an identifiable brand name in the video game industry.

Just as long as they stay away from any phallic synonyms, I'll be happy.

I'm confused... What exactly does IGN have to do with Microsoft? They told them they were rebranding their console so that they could design a new website ahead of time...?

IGN in partnership with FOX Interactive Media own TeamXbox.com. The website is being closed down because of this hinting it is less a rumour and more a leak of something official.

Yeah, but how does that fit in with rebranding the Xbox? Seems like they just wanted to integrate everything into one site. If major review sites really had insider info, then there should be a lot more leaks at this point.

Because the article also states Microsoft have been sending out PDF documents of the new logo and box layouts which have been missing the Xbox portion of the branding.
