Halo 3 has something called "Bungie Pro" which gives you 4x the file share slots you normally have, and also allows you to upload your clips that were recorded with the game engine to be rendered, so they can be played back on your PC. Stuff like that takes up a lot of server space, so it's no surprise they would require a subscription fee. Also, it doesn't interfere with the game at all. You still get 6 slots to share your files with (which is already a feature that barely any console game have), and having your footage in a format playable on a PC obviously isn't a necessity.
Activision aren't complete idiots. I'm sure they have an idea of the limits of what they can do. They're probably doing something similar to what Bungie did. New features that don't interfere with the original game.
Many people have stopped (and are still stopping) playing MW2 because it is generally just full of bullshit like commando, etc. This will only serve to kill even more peoples interest in the game.
