Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that there's no way this is true, or even possible in any realistic way.

Frostbite 2.0 is the engine used to make/run BF3. For Frostbite 2.0 to not be included in the console versions, that would make the game effectively non-existent/unplayable unless another engine is used, but I'm fairly certain that a developer can't just say, "Let's just take out one engine and pop in another".

Even if they did do something like that, I'm pretty sure it would barely even be the same game if a different engine was "popped in". Therefore, naming the PC/Console versions of the game the same would be misleading.

This "rumor" sounds like a load of crap, as many rumors often do.

I'll completely admit that I know practically nothing of game engines or anything of the sort, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. Otherwise, forgive me for spewing nonsense...

EDIT: Although... now that I think about it, COD:WAW was a very different game on the Wii compared to the PS3/360 versions. So... I guess I could be wrong. Well, damn.

Now I don't know what to think.

nah youre right, you cant really just "swap engines" very easily with a game. if you do you have to build the game up from scratch, well the programming part anyway (they could use the same graphics/textures and things). thats a ton of extra coding to do for practically no reason as consoles are perfectly capable of handling Frostbite 2. im thinking it might be Destruction 2.0 that this is referring to, not Frostbite. thats sort of like a "mod" for Frostbite which DICE can scale back without affecting anything but building damage.

WII can not do hd that is the main reason for the WII U so games like call of duty can be shown how they where made. most people do not even know there was COD on wii there is a post here saying how the new WII U would hope to get cod games assuming they don't have them now but they do. you are right thought the same engine will be used pc xbox ps3 just different ports of it. rumors now a days do not have to have any real truth to them to take off. they claim to get this info from over 3week old tv show of Jimmy Fallon late so watch for your self and see if they say that http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/video/battlefield-3-61611/1334617/

it has to have Frostbite, its the friggin ENGINE for the game.

now i could see maybe them not having Destruction 2.0 as thats a separate entity that only affects buildings, or maybe a scaled back version. 360 might not have the processing power to keep up with all the info related to building damage for the whole map, so i could see a scaled back D2.0. PS3's cell chip could handle it but they arent gonna make a special version for PS3 that has it in, they would make both console versions the same.

anyway this is a game that should be played on PC anyway.

it will feature it however it will not feature it in all its glory that the pc has because the consoles just can not do what a new pc can do as they are using older standardized hardware. the game will for sure use the same engine but if your using a engine on xbox and ps3 that really runs at the 1.x version they might rater call it that even know it is not that.

This rumor is just trying to pit gamers of all platforms against each other. It is strange for a developer to do such a thing after spending months telling people the power of Frosbite 2 to promote it's coming game. Why can't it play on the consoles while Need for Speed The Run (and Walking) is going to use it also. It's like putting a gun to your own head. Illogical.

I have a feeling that the console version will have Frosbite 2 but maybe with some features toned down, not turned off or using an older engine. Let's face it : The PC version uses DX 11 hardware (reason for the Win 7 exclusivity)while the consoles uses DX 9 hardware. Why do you there's a big difference in quality? Otherwise they would have make it run for both Win XP (DX9 only) and Win 7.

BUT, I would also not be surprised if the rumor is true. EA have shafted PC gamers a lot of times before. Prime example: FIFA 2009-2010. Those games use a new, better engine for consoles while the PC gets the updated (rehashed) Fifa 2004 engine. It wasn't until Fifa 2011 that the PC finally get to play with the new engine but with the advanced animation engine removed (but that's available for the PC in BF3....). Besides, if I remember correctly, Bad Company uses 2 different game engines. One for Singleplayer and one for multiplayer.

PC gamers are used to be treated like crap by developers. If they can suck it up and endure all these years, surely the millions of console gamers can also bravely face crap every now and then. There's a reason why console gamers call PC gamers whiny, loud, snobbish elitists - they know what they want.

EA and EA Sports are somewhat separated in terms of their publishing duties, so just cause Sports did or does it doesnt mean EA as a whole will do it. besides its DICE thats developing, EA is just paying the bills, they let them do their own thing for the most part.
