It is rumored Microsoft plans to phase out their Microsoft Points system by the end of the year. All listings on Xbox Live and in the Windows Phone Marketplace will be all monetary based. This shift will put Microsoft on the same playing field as all of their competing companies and products.

Hmm, my first concern (if this is really going to happen) is that this means we are going to need some kind of credit card information saved if we want to buy DLC. For people who are worried about getting hacked and having credit card information lost, which has happened to me in the past, the ability to purchase Microsoft Points from a retailer bypasses that issue.

If they have any sense, they'll still allow you to buy pre-paid cards in stores to use online, like Nintendo and Sony... if not then I guess that'll be one more reason to avoid Microsoft.
