Microsoft working on a "better" Metal Gear Solid 4?

Final Blade | December 29, 2007 | Rumor | Playstation 3 XBOX 360
It seems MS has a new trick up their sleeves. Instead of spreading more rumors about MGS4 being on the 360, they come out saying "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Snake."

So looks like they are going to make a game bigger and better than MGS4, on their first try. Its also stated that They also have it in the works.

By the way the rest of the article can be read here if anyone is interested.
According to the digital grapevine, Microsoft is meeting with a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Snake." It doesn't end there though; the rumor adds that Microsoft executives have already seen the demo of this game and were "thoroughly impressed."

All the game needs, apparently, is deciding on whether it should be told from a first or third person perspective. The game supposedly takes place in the future and its storyline will be centered on major political events from the last few years.

Why can't they just make a fun original game instead of making a copy?

You have got to have near...nay...flawless material to try to undermine a highly successful franchise that has been going platinum since 1987.

    Eh heh, pretty much >_>

They're just trying to create hype, saying they are 'impressed' with the content thus far...

I'm not saying it is bad, I'm just saying I doubt it will be so good as to rival MGSIV and provide a rival for the franchise...

I doubt they'd be able to make a game better than MGS4 in the same genre.

No doubt that even if the game sucks, fanboys will still say it's better than MGS4.

It is impossible for this game to be better than MGS4 for me.

It is rare for a new game to stand up to a series... that said, there is a slim chance.

There's already plenty of games that are better than Metal Gear Solid, so what if there's a new one in development?

Now, forgive me for saying that, but it's true. Metal Gear Solid 1 on PS1 was absolutely astounding for its day. It had many innovations in it, but once Splinter Cell hit the streets, it kicked MGS's ass back to Japan, showing that it was the dominant stealth action game. Even considering that Double-Agent was a letdown, the series has always been better than MGS (especially Chaos Theory).

Dude, Splinter Cell was horrid, its nothing compared to MGS. I gave it a shot, I really did, but that game bore the shit out of me.

Spilinter Cell better than MGS hahahaha!! That's made my day!! Spilinter Cell lacks the story and gameplay, to even begin to match MGS.

Indeed, Splinter Cell can't possibly compare to MGS. Granted it's got alright gameplay, but it certainly doesn't match what we can do in MGS.

A game to be better than another would have to be of the same genre, imo that's the most fair take on it. We can't compare MGS to say, Mass Effect, as that's an RPG and it simply wouldn't make sense...so let's take a look at how many A/A stealth/tactical espionage type games are on the market, shall we? Oh wait, I can only think of Splinter Cell and MGS.

Metal Gear Solid > Splinter Cell.

But anyway, it is kind of pathetic that Microsoft are trying to take hype away from MGS4, just because it's not likely to be on the 360.

Lol i know that they can't make a game bigger than MGS because MGS created the stealth action, has unique gameplay and an excellent story. Yes, the game might be good, but no were near the level that MGS is on. Lol at people who think Splinter cell is better than MGS.

Yeah, CDemon, I know Sony did it too. Im saying it's pathetic that Microsoft are doing it NOW that they're realising it's probably not gonna be on the 360.

It's not even just MGS4 Microsoft needs to worry about. SSBB is coming out around the time MGS4 is released.

In other words, Microsoft is going dry for some time as Sony and Nintendo are stepping things up.

    Storm | December 30, 2007
That's true, SSBB is coming in February, then PS3 get's MGS4 about Q2 2008, whilst nothing big's coming exclusively for the 360 at that time.

That's easily up for debate. In fact, just how many awards did the Metal Gear Solid series has won in contrast to the Splinter Cell series? Hell, there's not a single Metal Gear Solid game that was ever a let down anyways.

As much as I love the MGS series, it isn't perfect. There is room for improvement. Very little room, as the games have been phenomenal, but room none-the-less.

Could Microsoft make a game equal to the MGS series? Yes.
Will they? Probably not, but it would not be impossible.

I would love another game to come out and equal MGS, but I can't see it happening.

    edit: @ Seeker X: I wasn't a fan of Metal Gear AC!D myself. =/

Metal Gear Acid and Babel aren't really part of the Solid series, which is why they are spin offs.

I know, Snake's Revenge and Acid were living proof that a MG game is not MG without Kojima. Though I gotta backtrack, I tracked down Ghost Babel, apparently it was a MGS game (with an alternate story at that) but apparently it's a damn good game nonetheless, so my point stands tall.

You know i was thinking The Agency could have the potential to be very big espionage and Spy game, don't know if it can match MGS4 probably not.

But i just don't see MS making a game to rival MGS4. I mean its already proclaimed that Halo Wars will be huge, but how huge or is that just random crap.

Looks like MS is just making more hype for MGS4 than not.

They said the samething about Splinter Cell, not only was Splinter Cell a limited exclsuive titie, it had horrid pacing, I feel asleep playing the game, that only happenend to me ONCE while playing a game, and thats cause I hadnt gotten enough sleep that day, but Splinter Cell was just boring.

How many times are you going to repeat yourself. It's not like MGS is that good, the controls are really odd and the hand to hand in MGS3 is horrid.

SC is not bad, it doesn't suck, it's pacing isn't bad, it's just not your stealth game. Personally, I don't like SC that much, but no less than MGS. SC is "real" stealth(I tread lightly with that statement), while MGS is "cartoony" stealth.

Pathetic. So, they can't get MGS4 on their console so they have a hissy fit, then try to make a 'better' version?! They should stop now. I highly doubt it could be done.

and Splinter Cell better than MGS? Please.. -___-

Imagine the uproar if this MS project turns out better than MGS4. But I've got a good feeling that that'll never happen (though MS does have a good track record of releasing good exclusives that aren't just all flash).

Although MS is really beginning to annoy me. But it's not unexpected; it's a console war.

Honestly I'd rather see more variety in the field instead of waiting around 3-4 years for a sequel, give more variety and challenges to the system, it's sad that we see a bucketload of FPS titles a year but few quality 3rd person titles especially in the stealth genre.

If they're going to chase the tails of MGS4 then more power to them, it just means more developers might realize that this isn't a once every few years market and really try for it.

I don't think many like replaying MGS1,2,3 until the cows come home going, "ugh well 4 is coming out soon, it better come out soon." for years and years.

For those clinging to MGS thinking nothing else matters, it's really time to wake up and realize, games end, stories die and franchises do fade. It's not like Kojima is already saying "HEY GUYS WE'RE HOT ON THE HEELS OF 4 ALREADY WITH A GREAT STORY FOR MGS5" the man is fed up and tired, he wants to do other things, so the greatness of a title is proven to be finite to the interest of the creator as we will see after 4.

I don't think the problem lies in the fact that they are going to make a Stealth game...that doesn't automatically have to collide with MGS.

      quote
Microsoft is meeting with a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Snake."
This comment was the start of the riot. The rival company attempts to strut their cojones by already making MGS their target.

Nobody is abolishing the idea of of another stealth game, the complaint is about the way they are making the hype...by trying to undermine a franchise like MGS.

      Long story short...

How would PC FPS fans react when there's a company that hired a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Gordon Freeman" on CONSOLE?

"How would PC FPS fans react when there's a company that hired a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Gordon Freeman" on CONSOLE?"

It doesn't need to be hypothetical, they've done it in the PC and Console realm already and the end result is everyone has better games because of it since no one gets to sit around and stretch while gaming goes stagnant.

Gamers often find it to be beneficial to their past-time to get companies fighting at each other tooth and nail, back in the day Soldier of Fortune, Kingpin and other titles had each other trying to figure out gore in gaming. Now we have a variety of lethal sequences.

I guess you may have meant it as this instead.

"How would PC FPS fanboys react when there's a company that hired a "highly talented studio" to make something "better than Gordon Freeman" on CONSOLE?"

They'd probably spit foam and run around like idiots while everyone else wondered what they were on about. Although that result isn't any different from fanboy's of anything else given that situation.

btw, epic fail for failure to realize that more variety is a good thing.
