In this age of online gaming, local multiplayer games have become mostly a thing of the past. Even so, Matt Beaudette of Gaming Irresponsibly counts down his favorite local multiplayer games of the past and present.

"When it comes to the marketing side of things, box art has played almost as big a part of game sales as the design and programming of the titles themselves. In the early days of the industry, it wasn't uncommon for games to have imagery that conveyed completely unrealistic ideas of what the gameplay was actually like."

"In order to make some of the people happy, this new gallery is centered around Lilith from the popular DarkStalkers series of Capcom fighters. You might remember another character from that series which got her own gallery too. This isn't about Morrigan though. She had her time in the sun. Do vamps hangout in the sun?"

Doom was re-added to the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace today after some licensing issues after changing publishers led to its removal several months ago.

"GamingUnion: "Modern gamers -- those brought up on fancy, high tech polygonal magic -- scoff at Final Fantasy VII's texture-less character models and low-res prerendered backgrounds, claiming that these are grounds for a remake. Yet the ravages of age have been harsher on Sega's Panzer Dragoon series.""

Daav from NoobFeed.com gets to live out his actual title as retro reviewer through a contemporary title. SEGA brought back Daytona USA and it still shines as ever. It might not be the most rounded out arcade racer, but it's certainly one of the biggest adrenaline rushes, still to this day.

"When it comes to fighting characters one of the most popular characters to get the real life costume treatment is Mai Shiranui from SNK's Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series. Typically the women dressing as Mai have a hard time matching the fictional character's "attributes". It's rare to find someone who is equipped to dress as the character."

"This is where we get a little greedy and wish a few of the upcoming titles we are looking forward to made an appearance.

We aren’t saying they should have been there for us to play, but certainly these have all got in-game footage that has been seen on the net, so a live demonstration of playable code would have been interesting, even if only for Media and VIPs.

After all, Mass Effect 3, also due next year, was there to be played."

"PushStartSelect: "FPS titles have become the hottest selling item over recent years. The craze started back when ID made Doom, a game that would make you turn and bob your head because things were literally flying right at you. Of course the horror aspect made it all the more awesome, but the genre has changed and expanded into all sorts of formulas. "Mainstream media is very weird when it comes to video games. They either go the Fox News route by claiming that all video games are made with the blood of Satan, or they try to cover video games, which is a nice thought, but I have yet to see a mainstream media outlet cover video games fully. Finally, there is "ignore the fact that video games exist.""
