One of the games in publisher XSEED Games'
E3 lineup was one of the more surprising games to come out of E3. Next to no one thought that it would be localized, myself included. However, this is not the case, and XSEED Games will bring
Retro Game Challenge, known as
Game Center CX: Arino's Challenge in Japan, for the Nintendo DS, which is based off of the popular TV show
Game Center CX. The game's logo and some screenshots were made available in Nintendo's Online Press Kit.
The Game Center CX game show, which will also see a domestic DVD release as Retro Game Master, stars Shinya Arino of comedy duo
Yoiko as an employee of the fictitious Game Center CX company. His job is to play the most popular games and beat them under a time limit, with support from his assistant directors and staff. Arino would tackle various games from different genres and different systems. There are games that he will clear, and others that he ends up failing.
Game Center CX: Arino's Challenge features the player being sent back in time by an caricature of Arino: the evil Game Master Arino. The only way to get back is to clear Arino's game challenges. What types will you have to play? Since you got sent back to the 80s, it's time to play some 8-bit Famicom/NES-styled games. There are eight full-fledged games that you must play and beat challenges for, each with their own specific difficulty. The games themselves are based off actual classics. Side-scroller Haguru Man is a combination of
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun and
Mappy. Star Prince is based off of
Star Soldier. Guardia Quest is a new version of
Dragon Quest. Each game in Retro Game Challenge will take these existing games and makes them even more fun. To even add to the lifestyle and atmosphere of the game, you can keep tabs with the in-game Game Fan Magazine, which you can read for cheat codes, tips and tricks for these games.
Retro Game Challenge is developed by Namco Bandai. It is set to release this winter.
Megaman 9 TREND.
