RIZ-ZOAWD is an RPG being developed by Media Vision (Wild ARMs 5, XF) and published by D3 Publisher, based on the children's classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. A new trailer was released today (which can be seen at the source), that displays both the battle and the field systems, alongside a bevy of new screenshots and concept art.

RIZ-ZOAWD features the Ratio Battle System, where each of the four playable characters have different turn ratios in battle: Dorothy and Scarecrow have a ratio of 1, the Cowardy Lion has a ratio of 2, and the Tin Woodman has a ratio of 3. Each turn, the player can select actions of a ratio of up to four, allowing customization of how the battle takes place. Do you let Dorothy or the Scarecrow attack four times, or have the Woodman give a strong hit instead?

In the field, there are four elemental spirits, which correspond to fire, earth, water and wind, that Dorothy must find and utilize in order to operate certain mechanisms to get past any puzzles that attempt to hinder the party's progress.

RIZ-ZOAWD is set to release this Winter in Japan. The official site can be found here. The rest of the screenshots and concept art can be seen at the source.

Hey, RIZ-ZOAWD doesn't look half-bad. It looks pretty fun, actually.

I had no idea this game was based on the Wizard of Oz. I was about to laugh but then I remembered that I'd LOLed really hard at Kingdom Hearts when it was first announced, and look at how that's turned out. Anyway, the ratio system seems like a nice twist to fighting battles.

RIZ-ZOAWD? It's an anagram of "Wizard of Oz" but they left out the "of."

It looks great, but the name leaves me baffled.
