From top-tier developer Level-5 comes new screenshots for a game on the Nintendo DS that is an interesting blend of two very distinct games. The name of the game is Inazuma Eleven, a soccer RPG brought to you by the people who developed Dark Cloud, Rogue Galaxy, Dragon Quest VIII, and Professor Layton.

In Inazuma you get to create your own soccer team, with almost 1000 playable characters to choose from to outfit your team for success. In your soccer battles, you will use the stylus to move your players, dodge attacks, and use special abilities. You can even go head-to-head locally with a friend.

Inazuma Eleven released in Japan today. The official site can be found here. There is also an anime and manga in production related to the game.

Note: Call it soccer and you're opinion is considered invalid until you start calling it it's proper name; football.

If i could give you 10 thumbs up, I would. About time they learned the actual name of the sport.

I refuse to give in to your hackneyed-European ways.

What you on? We invented the sport, we invented the English language, we can call it what we want!

GARRR Now call it "football" which is its logical and real name.

American football took it's name from from rugby which took it's name from football.

        gg on looking an idiot.

edit: Oh and Akira, it's pretty much everywhere other than America that calls it football. Not just Europe.

Again, well done on looking like an idiot. (Y)

How bout you all stop arguing over the name of a bloody sport. It's insanely trival.

Anyway this soccer-(I'm an Aussie and this is what we call it, deal with it)-RPG game looks like it could be good, at least from looking at the screenshots, might have to rent it out and take a look at some point.

British call car hoods "bonnets", which, is actually a type of head wear developed by the French. This does not make every British person who uses the terminology an idiot.

Enough with the trolling, Donnelly, please.

bonnets and hoods =/= soccer and football.

If you were smart enough you would see the generalization and the point I was making. It's a shame you're not.

Interesting take on an RPG, I'm not expecting anything spectacular from the sound of it. Soccer and role playing seems like two things that wouldn't mix cleanly. Though I am curious to see how it plays, especially with it being developed by Level-5, they produce most, if not all, of my favorite role playing titles.

If the football element's anything like Pro Ev on the DS it's something to bypass.

LMFAO man thumbs would be flying on this article if the neg thumbs were still available. I think it's silly how everyone gets all worked up over what to call the sport. It's soccer here, football there. It's dollars here, pounds there. It don't really matter.....same shit different name.

      Slumpy monkey Aug 23, 08
Pounds and dollars aren't the same at all, There totally different currencies.
      • 1
        kik36 Aug 23, 08
Yeah the fact is they are still currency. Soccer and football are still the same sport. I may be reaching with that analogy, but I think most people get the gist.

Actually, when you say football to Americans they imagine that sport where everyone kills each other. But when you say football to an English man you get asked if you saw the match last night. they are different sports!

If you call it "Soccer" then EVERYONE knows what sport you're talking about. If you say Football then North Americans and British folk are at odds until their presense is realized.

Don't be annoyed when we call it "Soccer"; we're helping everyone understand. By annoyed that you have one less sport than us.

The first time I've seen soccer(football) combined with an RPG. Interesting!
