The latest screenshots for the Level-5-developed and Square Enix-published upcoming Nintendo DS RPG Dragon Quest IX depict the complexity of the character customization for the protagonist. Players will be able to pick their character's gender and there will be five different build types, ten types of hairstyles, and ten types of faces to choose from. You will also have the ability to customize your party also, by talking to the the bartender at the local pub when forming your party.

Aside from altering your character's physical appearance, you can choose each character's job class, which include a Warrior, Magician, Thief, and others. However, each character's appearance will also be affected by the type of armor he/she is wearing, as equipment changes will also reflect on the characters themselves. Clothing styles also differ between the game's eight different regions, so you can mix and match your fashion styles at your will.

Dragon Quest IX is due out in March in Japan. You can check out the official site here. You can check out the rest of the screenshots over at the source.
