If the Resident Evil 5 demo comparison wasn't enough for you, then the-horror.com has turned things up a notch with a freakishly in-depth comparison of the 360 and PS3 version's graphics.

But in the end, does it really matter which version has more dust particles, or darker shadowing, or fuller smoke volume? When the difference between graphics are so minimal, I'm more interested in just having fun.

Go to the source for full comparison.

What follows is a comparison of the Biohazard 5 demos which were recently released for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. What you should keep in mind when viewing the pictures below is that, as of the publishing of this article, the game still has three months of development time and any of the things you see below could very well be changed by the time the game is released. Another thing you should note is that I took these shots through component video output on both consoles. Its common knowledge that the Xbox 360 has a sharper output that the Playstation 3. As with most multi-platform releases, it's standard practice for different platforms to be on different build releases as they are created. So while these two demos were released just a few weeks apart, it's very likely that one of them is using old assets and code, which may help explain some of the differences. Also worth mentioning is the fact that you aren't viewing these screenshots in an uncompressed format, however the same compression levels were used for each version.

No, HawkMan, they won't, they're like top 10 lists people will read them so they do them.

Tell that to the people doing the dick size competitions to see which one is the bigger Dick!

      Sadly no.

You'd think so. You'd hope so. Sadly, it provides a conversation starter for socially inept retards during online gatherings. Stupid comparisons.

TBH, I'm not the sort that would notice most of these differences, and no matter which version I played, I'd think it looks great >_>

That being said, I wonder how the comparison will differ when the game is completed.

The 360 zombie has more wrinkles. Clearly the PS3 zombie's more youthful appearance means that Sony's console is superior.

Clearly, because we all know how them zombies love to keep their youthful appearance.

Only differences I can see is the shading really, namely in the ears and around the eyes.

I think I'm gonna get a headache from squinting my eyes so much and focusing too hard. This is probably worse for your eyes than actually standing THAT close to the monitor screen.

Hm, I find the article's usefulness less in the comparison area, and more in the humour area. "Hey let's find minute differences in the consoles!" I think that's more along the lines of fun and humour, than anything else

I'm surprised that in these comparisons, they don't count the hairs on a character in each version to see if one has a few more hairs than the other lol.

OMG the 360 version is SO much better because the main character has 2 more hairs on his head than the PS3 version. The Cell isn't so powerful now is it Sony fanboys. lol

What's it mean by 'sharper output', if I may ask?

    deeplove Dec 31, 08
Actually, the 360 version looks sharper and much better. Sorry to say this, but hands down the 360 is better looking.

    Now...as far as penile comparisons...

      Final Blade Dec 31, 08
After extensively looking at both, none is better. Both are equal to the naked eye, and all these stupid comparisons are stupid.

TIP: BY THE GAME ON THE SYSTEM YOU PLAY MORE OF.

Lol, i like how the compared the box cover and the color of the CD. Clearly the 360 one is better.

Yeah, this wasn't even that minute. It was pretty obvious that the 360 had better shadowing, textures, and smoke effects. This will probably change as the 360 is most likely the lead version and they need to add stuff to the PS3, but for now it's a fairly obvious lead.

I thought we were done with having the PS3 as the secondary version. It's obvious the PS3 is capable of much more, yet we're always getting the port-version.

Wait a sec, in the source, doesn't in say it's from an earlier build?

n summary, at this time, it appears that the Xbox 360 version is a few builds ahead of the Playstation 3.

Meaning that the PS3 is a much older build and it looks just as good if not the same as the 360 one? Wouldn't that apply the comparisons is screwed up again?

Key word appears. Meaning it just looks like it is.

For all we know, the PS3 version is the same level build as the 360 one, and the PS3 one just isn't coded as well. I'd prefer to believe it is simply an older build though, yes.

@Final Blade - Comment FAIL >_> "it looks as good, if not the same as the 360 one"? And it is 'imply', not 'apply'. Meh, I get what you mean. But my above comment in this post applies regardless.

i really doubt they would be comparing the 360 build with an outdated PS3 build. that wouldnt make sense, and wouldnt be fair anyway. they are probably of a similar build. but there is almost no difference. thats really how the PS3 and 360 stacks up graphics wise. there is little difference. its just the PS3 looks better on paper. the PS3 having 7 CPU cores doesnt mean jack shit as far as how good the graphics look, only how many MOBs can be active on screen or in RAM at once.

I just don't understand how developers can shoulder such potential in a system as the PS3. Even if they don't use every single core, they can still do a better job than they did in the image. We shouldn't be in the days where the 360 version always looks crisper because devs aren't willing to properly develop for PS3, and instead just port code from the 360 version...

Tbh, the difference is so minimal I don't think it even matters. Maybe if there was an obvious difference, like one version looking downright shitty in comparison to the other version, then we'd have reason to compare them. But the differences in shading/textures/smoke is so small that when the game is actually in play, I doubt anyone is even going to notice. They'll be too busy focusing on, oh I dunno, the hoardes of zombies charging towards them.

Detail wise I like the 360; the PS3 seems to add a gaussian blur to everything. BUT I can't stand the green hue that's present throughout everything on the 360 version.
