For Square Enix's upcoming DS RPG Dragon Quest IX: Hoshizora no Mamoribito (Defenders of the Starry Sky), the player's user-created characterse can explore the game's world with a treasure map in hand, and hunt for treasure as a part of its side missions.

The map is displayed on the top screen with an X denoting the location of a dungeon where the treasure is located. In the dungeon, the top screen map will map for you automatically as you explore, taking care of baddies and looting its treasure. At the end of each dungeon, you can expect a boss fight, but with the danger comes the dungeon's reward.

Dragon Quest IX releases in less than two weeks on July 11th in Japan, with no announced date for outside the country as of yet. You can find the official site here. Check out the rest of the screenshots at the source.
