The V-Jump magazine presents new images of Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and announces that Materias will make their return in this game. It will be possible to obtain Materias in various ways and to combine them in order to create new ones or to modify the effects of certain objects - similar to the original FFVII system of using Materia.

New scans revealing Phoenix as a summon, info on creating Materia, and scenes with Hojo.
Translated information from AdventChildren.Net:
Materia synth:
- You acquire materia through various means, and some you will get several of. You can use these extra ones to create new materia
- As well as combining two materias, you can also add items as well. Using items will give the new materia different added effects and abilities
- One of the screenshots shows a 'Blizzard' and 'Spin Attack' materia synthed together, which gives you "Magic Blade: Blizzard", which has Magic +1 added ability
Dialogue from the screenshots:
Zack (with Tseng): "You've been monitoring Aerith, haven't you?"
Aerith (angry face): "It's normal, isn't it. Being careful around flowers.
Aerith (sad face): "But, [you're?] not normal."
Sephiroth (or possibly Zack?): "Did something happen to Modeoheim?" (Modeoheim = maybe something to do with Angeal?)
Zack: "Sephiroth! What's it been, 100 years now?" (probably just a jokey Zack thing to say after not seeing Sephiroth in a while rather than a literal 100 years)
Hojo: "An epic poem, handed down from ancient times."
Hojo: "Your duty isn't to think. A SOLDIER's duty is to protect a brilliant mind such as myself."
Hojo: "Do you really think following Hollander will stop your deterioration?"
