While the current Diablo III project looks nothing like this, it's still good to see what the project looked like back in 2005. This version never made it though but I ask the older fans : Did this version look bad to you? We would've still played it!

This version of Diablo was scrapped however, with Blizzard deeming it was below their standards. As you'll notice, this discarded version looks a lot more like a gritty dungeon crawler than the current one does, holding better with Diablo's previous entries atmosphere and standards.

While there is still a slim chance of Diablo III launching this year, don't hold your breath. For now, look over a few of the old screenies of the version which didn't make it:
